Job Overview: This internship is located within the Subregional Office for South-East Asia (SROSEA) of ESCAP, which aims to support its member states in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The internship is unpaid and full-time, lasting for a period of six months, with a preference for candidates who can commit to a longer duration. Interns will work five days a week, totaling 35 hours, under the supervision of the Head of the Subregional Office. The internship is designed to provide research support, assist in project implementation, and develop digital platforms and multimedia content. Interns will have a work plan tailored to their skills, interests, and future academic or career plans, focusing on assisting SROSEA in its policy work and activities related to the SDGs in Southeast Asia.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: contributing to research initiatives on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in ASEAN, conducting literature reviews, compiling data, and drafting analytical inputs; assisting in coordinating UN–ASEAN engagements and joint initiatives, preparing background materials, tracking activities, and supporting communication with partners; supporting the planning and delivery of SROSEA meetings and events, including policy dialogues, workshops, and consultations, which involves agenda preparation, participant coordination, and logistical arrangements; developing communication and outreach materials such as flyers, press releases, newsletter content, and social media posts to enhance SROSEA's visibility; and providing support on special projects and other tasks as required, contributing to the broader work programme of the Office.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's, or Ph.D. Programme or have completed such programmes. Additionally, applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, and possess strong research and writing skills.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or being in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). This ensures that candidates have the necessary academic foundation to contribute effectively to the work of the Subregional Office for South-East Asia.
