Job Overview:
The Transitions Adviser position is crucial for enhancing the coherence of the UN System in Colombia, particularly in relation to political and peace issues. The adviser will act as a liaison with the UN Verification Mission to Colombia, the UN Country Team (UNCT), and the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT). The role involves providing strategic and analytical support to the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator (RC/HC) to engage with various stakeholders, including government officials, civil society, and academia. The adviser will also support the development of coherent UN programmatic engagements aimed at sustaining peace and preventing conflict, ensuring that the UN's approach is integrated and aligned with the normative standards set by UN security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Council Resolutions and recommendations from UN Human Rights bodies. This position requires a proactive approach to monitoring UN actions and facilitating coordination among program activities, as well as developing partnerships with international stakeholders to strengthen coordination within the international community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Transitions Adviser will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing strategic and analytical support to the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator (RC/HC) for engagement with government officials and high-level stakeholders.
  • Supporting the RC/HC in developing coherent UN programmatic engagements focused on sustaining peace and conflict prevention.
  • Coordinating interagency results groups to establish an integrated UN approach to peace and conflict prevention.
  • Serving as a liaison with the UN Special Political Mission, ensuring regular communication and political guidance for coherence in peace implementation.
  • Monitoring UN actions and facilitating coordination between program activities.
  • Assisting the Resident Coordinator's Office in developing partnerships with international stakeholders and enhancing coordination within the international community.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s Degree) in political science, sociology, international relations, international economics, law, public administration, or related social sciences. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with additional years of relevant experience may be considered. A minimum of 10 years of experience in areas related to sustaining peace, prevention, post-conflict transition, and recovery is required. This experience should include analysis, policy, and strategy development within governmental, multilateral, or civil society organizations, with prior experience in the UN considered an asset. Proven experience in peace processes is essential, along with flexibility to work under pressure and manage multiple topics simultaneously. Candidates should demonstrate sensitivity to gender priorities and readiness to integrate environmental sustainability into their work.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s Degree) in relevant fields such as political science, sociology, international relations, international economics, law, public administration, or other related social sciences. In cases where candidates hold a Bachelor’s degree, they must have additional years of experience to compensate for the lack of an advanced degree.

Experience:
The position requires at least 10 years of professional experience in areas related to sustaining peace, prevention, post-conflict transition, and recovery. This experience should encompass analysis, policy, and strategy development, ideally within governmental, multilateral, or civil society organizations. Previous experience with the UN is highly regarded, and candidates should have a proven track record in peace processes, demonstrating the ability to work effectively under pressure and manage various topics concurrently.

Languages:
Fluency in both spoken and written English and Spanish is mandatory for this position. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and facilitate coordination among various entities involved in peace and development efforts.
