Job Overview:
The position involves supporting the Jordan National Center for Human Rights in conducting a National Baseline Assessment on Business and Human Rights. This assessment aims to evaluate the current state of business practices in relation to human rights within Jordan, identifying gaps and areas for improvement. The contractor will be expected to engage with various stakeholders, including government entities, civil society organizations, and the private sector, to gather relevant data and insights. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of human rights issues, particularly in the context of business operations, and the ability to analyze and synthesize information effectively. The contractor will work closely with UNDP and the Jordan National Center for Human Rights to ensure that the assessment is thorough, objective, and aligned with international standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of existing literature and reports related to business and human rights in Jordan.
  • Engage with stakeholders through interviews, surveys, and focus groups to gather qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Analyze data collected to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities in the business and human rights landscape.
  • Prepare a detailed report outlining findings, conclusions, and recommendations for improving business practices in relation to human rights.
  • Collaborate with UNDP and the Jordan National Center for Human Rights to ensure the assessment meets the required standards and expectations.
  • Present findings to stakeholders and facilitate discussions on the implications of the assessment.
  • Ensure that all activities are conducted in compliance with ethical standards and respect for confidentiality.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven expertise in human rights, particularly in the context of business operations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and present findings clearly.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with proficiency in report writing.
  • Experience working with governmental and non-governmental organizations in Jordan or the region is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with international human rights frameworks and standards related to business practices.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in human rights, international relations, law, social sciences, or a related field is required. A PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant area would be an advantage.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in human rights, business ethics, or related fields is required. Experience in conducting assessments or evaluations, particularly in the context of business and human rights, is highly desirable. Previous work with UN agencies or similar organizations will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the quality of the assessment.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 5 months. The role is expected to be full-time, with flexibility in working hours to accommodate stakeholder engagements. The position is open to both national and international candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
