Job Overview: The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Associate plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of UNICEF personnel and their eligible family members, as well as safeguarding UNICEF premises, assets, and resources. This position involves providing technical, operational, and administrative assistance to the supervisor, following strict compliance with UN Security policies and procedures. The Security Associate is expected to monitor local security situations, assist in security planning, and support the supervisor in implementing security measures and contingency plans. The role requires a proactive approach to maintaining communication with local authorities and ensuring that UNICEF personnel are well-informed about security protocols and emergency procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Security Planning: Assist the supervisor in planning functions related to safety and security, including the implementation of the UN Country Security Plan and Security Risk Management. Help develop security documentation, such as contingency plans and security reports.
Safety and Security Services: Monitor local security situations and provide updates to the supervisor. Support security activities for UNICEF staff and premises, and assist in establishing effective communication systems. Conduct physical security surveys and support security-related contingency exercises.
Security Networking: Maintain liaison with host government counterparts and local authorities responsible for security.
Knowledge Management and Capacity Building: Coordinate mandatory security training for UNICEF personnel and develop familiarization sessions for contracted security guards. Provide security-related training to ensure comprehension among personnel, especially those more comfortable in the local language.
Required Qualifications: Completion of secondary education, supplemented by relevant technical/military/police courses and/or university courses in a relevant discipline. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field may replace three years of related work experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related applications is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed secondary education, with additional technical or university courses in a relevant discipline being highly desirable. A bachelor's degree from a recognized institution can substitute for three years of related work experience, highlighting the importance of formal education in this role.
Experience: A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in a security-related environment is required. Relevant experience at the country level, particularly in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts, is desirable. Experience working in the UN Common System or similar international organizations is considered an asset, as is practical knowledge of social media platforms and current news developments.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication capabilities within diverse teams and communities.
