Job Overview: The Logistics Assistant position at WFP involves supporting the receipt and dispatch of commodities, ensuring compliance with established standards and documentation. The role is crucial in maintaining the integrity of logistics operations, assisting the Warehouse Manager in overseeing logistics assets, and ensuring timely delivery of WFP cargoes. The Logistics Assistant will also be responsible for managing commodity accounting data, processing logistics operation documentation, and maintaining an organized filing system for all logistics documents. This position requires a proactive approach to coordinating the movement of food and non-food items, monitoring inventory systems, and ensuring effective stock management. The Logistics Assistant will play a vital role in ensuring that WFP's humanitarian assistance reaches those in need efficiently and effectively, contributing to the organization's mission of saving lives and changing lives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Logistics Assistant will have a range of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: supporting the receipt and dispatch of commodities, ensuring accuracy in physical counts and compliance with quality standards; assisting the Warehouse Manager in logistics and warehouse operations; managing commodity accounting data quality; processing documentation for logistics operations such as customs clearance and invoice verification; maintaining a proper filing system for logistics documents; coordinating the movement of food and non-food items; monitoring FIFO and LIFO systems, best before dates, and infestations; posting daily dispatches in the corporate system; delivering WFP standard waybills; ensuring efficient warehouse operations through coordination with transport and program teams; managing stock effectively to prevent loss; preparing stock status reports; and performing any other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a completion of secondary school education or a university degree (Diploma/Bachelor’s) in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics Management, Economics, Management, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to implement warehouse operational procedures and WFP guidelines, manage inventory effectively using corporate systems, and have a strong understanding of loss mitigation practices. Languages: Fluent knowledge of English and Somali is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication within the team and with stakeholders, ensuring that logistics operations run smoothly and efficiently.
