Job Posting Organization: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a leading intergovernmental organization dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. Established in 1951, IOM has grown to include 173 member states and operates in over 100 countries worldwide. The organization's mission is to ensure that migration is safe, orderly, and dignified, while also addressing the challenges and opportunities that arise from migration. IOM works to provide services and advice concerning migration to governments and migrants alike, focusing on the protection of vulnerable populations and the promotion of sustainable development through migration. IOM's work is guided by its core values of inclusion, integrity, professionalism, courage, and empathy, which are essential in fostering a respectful and effective work environment.
Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in the design and layout of a safe migration pocketbook aimed at educating migrants and community members about safe migration practices. This project is part of the CREATE Project, which seeks to reduce the risks of human trafficking and re-trafficking in the Philippines, particularly in regions vulnerable to climate-related disasters. The consultant will be responsible for proposing design themes that align with IOM's branding, creating an initial draft of the pocketbook, and revising it based on feedback from IOM. The final deliverable will include both editable and permanent formats of the pocketbook, ensuring that the information is accessible and visually appealing to the target audience. The consultant's work will directly contribute to enhancing awareness of the climate change-human trafficking nexus and support the development of trafficking-aware communities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake the following tasks:
Propose three distinct design themes for the safe migration pocketbook, including color schemes, layout structures, cover designs, and illustration styles that adhere to the IOM Brand Style Guide.
Create and submit an initial draft of the pocketbook based on the selected design theme, ensuring that the content is engaging and informative.
Revise the draft up to three times, incorporating feedback and inputs from IOM to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the pocketbook.
Deliver the final version of the pocketbook in both editable format (.indd) and permanent formats (.pdf and .png), along with all raw and supporting files.
Ensure that all deliverables are submitted by the agreed-upon deadlines, maintaining high standards of design and consistency with IOM branding.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of experience in providing design and layout services, with at least three years specifically focused on layout support for manuals, research outputs, reports, or similar products. The consultant should demonstrate a strong track record of creativity and design excellence, showcasing their ability to produce visually appealing and effective materials. Familiarity with IOM's branding and design guidelines is essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively with IOM staff to achieve desired outcomes.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field is required. Candidates should have formal training or qualifications that demonstrate their expertise in design principles, layout techniques, and the use of design software. A portfolio showcasing previous design work, particularly in the context of educational or informational materials, will be highly beneficial.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in design and layout services, with a strong emphasis on producing high-quality materials for educational or informational purposes. Candidates should have experience working with organizations similar to IOM, particularly in contexts related to migration, human trafficking, or disaster response. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines is essential.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Tagalog is mandatory, as these languages will be used for the content of the pocketbook. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French or Spanish, would be advantageous but is not required. Language proficiency will be assessed during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral evaluations to ensure effective communication and understanding of the project requirements.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is expected to be completed by the specified deadlines, with the first deliverable due by 13 March 2026 and the final deliverable by 27 March 202
The consultant will be compensated in two installments based on the successful submission of the deliverables. This position is subject to funding confirmation and the candidate's medical fitness for appointment. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses for consultants, but individuals are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational issues. IOM adheres to a zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct and discrimination, ensuring a safe and respectful work environment for all staff and consultants.
