Job Overview: The SGP National Coordinator will be responsible for the overall implementation of the Small Grants Programme at the country level. This includes managing the SGP Country Programme team, which consists of the SGP Programme Associate/Assistant and the National Steering Committee. The coordinator will ensure effective management and teamwork within the SGP Country Programme team and will be tasked with preparing and implementing annual work plans that include strategic initiatives and targets. The role also involves managing grant allocations, maintaining financial integrity, and ensuring adherence to operational procedures. The coordinator will engage with civil society organizations and local communities to develop project concepts and proposals, oversee ongoing projects, and facilitate stakeholder workshops. Additionally, the coordinator will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the programme's impact and ensuring alignment with national environmental priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the SGP Country Programme team, providing guidance and coaching to the SGP Programme Associate/Assistant.
Promote teamwork within the SGP Country Programme team and with the National Steering Committee and UNDP CO team.
Prepare and implement annual work plans with strategic initiatives and targets.
Draft the annual administrative and project operational budget proposal.
Set performance parameters for the team, assess their performance, and provide feedback.
Keep abreast of national environmental concerns and assess their impact on SGP's work.
Formulate and implement the Country Programme Strategy (CPS) and manage grant allocations.
Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the above fields with an additional two years of qualifying experience.
Proficiency in using computers and office software packages.
Experience in project or programme management at international or national levels is desirable.
Knowledge of UNDP's strategic programmes and operational policies is an asset.
Proven experience in managing and monitoring UN/DP programmes is a significant advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as Environmental or Natural Resource Management, Economy, Public Policy, Law, Environmental Economics/Management, Business Administration, or related disciplines. A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) may be considered if combined with two years of relevant professional experience.
Experience: Applicants with a master's degree are not required to have prior professional work experience. However, those with a bachelor's degree must have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in managing environmental or natural resource management projects at national or local levels. Experience in project management, monitoring, and evaluation is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of other UN languages is considered an advantage.
Additional Notes: The position is based in the UNDP Egypt office, and the incumbent will report to the Resident Representative and the SGP Regional Programme Specialist. The role involves supervision of the SGP Programme Associate/Assistant and requires access to relevant information and resources for task execution.
