Job Overview: The Associate DirectorRisk Officer plays a crucial role in the Risk Management division of the EBRD, which serves as the second line of defense in identifying, reporting, and mitigating risks associated with the bank's portfolio. This position involves independently analyzing and appraising risks related to new and existing equity and quasi-equity transactions. The Associate Director is expected to challenge bankers and committees to ensure compliance with the bank's sound banking mandate. The role includes leading and managing junior staff, providing operational guidelines, and ensuring that the bank understands the operating environments in various countries, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa and Iraq. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Director Risk Officer include initiating risk-based analysis of proposed new EBRD countries of operation, establishing independent views on equity proposals, preparing and communicating equity risk notes, acting as a risk expert for Equity Risk projects, delivering authoritative conclusions under tight deadlines, managing credit risk for designated portfolios, ensuring compliance with valuation methodologies, and leading equity portfolio reviews. The Associate Director will also engage with banking teams, participate in executive committees, and contribute to various initiatives within Risk Management. Additionally, the role requires monitoring assigned portfolio counterparties and market developments, coaching banking staff, and collaborating with other departments to ensure effective functioning across the bank.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Associate Director Risk Officer position must possess strong influencing skills, extensive experience in equity analysis, and hands-on transactional equity experience from private equity funds, investment banks, or similar institutions. They should have a deep understanding of emerging markets, particularly in Africa, and demonstrate the ability to make autonomous decisions in high-risk environments.
