Job Overview:
The position of Radiation Oncologist is crucial within the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, specifically under the Division of Human Health. The primary functions of this role include coordinating and supporting research initiatives, providing technical and advisory services, and disseminating information related to radiation therapy for cancer treatment. The Radiation Oncologist will work closely with Member States to enhance their capabilities in radiotherapy, particularly in developing countries, aiming to improve cancer cure rates through safe clinical practices. This role also involves developing guidelines and training materials to support the education of healthcare professionals in radiation oncology.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Radiation Oncologist will be responsible for developing and implementing coordinated research projects related to radiation therapy, including evaluating research contracts and organizing research coordination meetings. They will plan and organize scientific and advisory meetings to review current knowledge in radiation oncology and strategize future activities. The role includes supporting the technical cooperation program by evaluating project requests, developing work plans, and participating in missions to IAEA recipient countries. Additionally, the Radiation Oncologist will prepare reports, proceedings, and scientific publications, and represent the IAEA at international meetings and conferences as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced medical degree with specialization in Radiation Oncology or Clinical Oncology, with a PhD being an asset. A minimum of seven years of recent scientific experience in radiation therapy is required, preferably in a cancer hospital or teaching institution. Experience in clinical research, evidenced by recent publications, is essential, along with clinical and administrative experience. Candidates should have a good national and international standing in their area of specialization and experience in international project management and coordination.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced medical degree specializing in Radiation Oncology or Clinical Oncology. A PhD is considered an asset, indicating a higher level of expertise and research capability in the field.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of seven years of recent scientific experience in radiation therapy, ideally gained in a cancer hospital or a teaching institution. Candidates should also have experience in clinical research, demonstrated through recent publications in their area of specialization, as well as clinical and administrative experience.

Languages:
Excellent oral and written command of English is mandatory. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration in an international context.

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $84,672, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance.
