Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in the project 'Diaspora for Climate Action and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security,' which aims to enhance the engagement of Ghanaian and Senegalese diasporas in Italy in climate action initiatives. The consultant will conduct research to assess the capacity and interest of these diaspora groups in contributing to climate action and food security in their countries of origin. This involves gathering data on past and ongoing climate initiatives, identifying green skills within the diaspora, and understanding the challenges and opportunities for engagement. The consultant will be responsible for producing a comprehensive report that reflects the findings of the research and provides actionable recommendations for policy development and practical interventions. The role requires close collaboration with IOM staff and other stakeholders to ensure the coherence and quality of the final study.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be expected to perform a variety of tasks, including: attending coordination meetings with IOM; developing an inception report that outlines the methodology and timeline for the research; ensuring coordination with another consultant working on the Senegalese diaspora; collecting primary and secondary data through interviews and focus groups with Ghanaian diaspora groups; consulting with relevant stakeholders; analyzing the collected data and preparing both draft and final reports; presenting initial findings to IOM; reviewing and integrating findings from the Senegalese diaspora report; drafting a comprehensive study that includes main findings and recommendations; and presenting the final study to external stakeholders. The consultant must ensure that all deliverables meet IOM's quality standards and editorial guidelines.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a completed university degree from an accredited institution in fields such as development studies, migration studies, international development, environmental studies, or climate change. Additionally, a minimum of 7 years of experience in qualitative research within the social sciences is required. Experience in conducting interviews and consultations with diverse stakeholders, particularly diaspora groups, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of diaspora engagement and the nexus between climate change and sustainable development. Familiarity with climate change adaptation strategies and food security systems is also necessary. Previous experience with IOM and working with the Ghanaian diaspora in Italy or Ghana will be considered advantageous. A valid work permit for Italy is required for the duration of the assignment.
Educational Background: The position requires a completed university degree from an accredited academic institution in relevant fields such as development studies, migration studies, international development, environmental studies, climate change, or related disciplines. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of diaspora engagement and climate action.
Experience: The consultant must have at least 7 years of experience in conducting qualitative research, particularly in social sciences. This experience should include working with diverse stakeholders, including diaspora organizations and institutions. Demonstrated knowledge of the relationship between climate change and sustainable development is essential, as well as experience in engaging with diaspora communities.
Languages: Fluency in both written and spoken Italian and English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French is considered an asset, as IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and oral assessments.

The consultant is required to submit a technical and financial proposal along with their application. The position may involve travel within Italy, but travel from outside Italy is not permitted. IOM provides coverage for occupational accidents and illnesses under its Compensation Plan, but consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational incidents. IOM maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct and does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
