Job Overview: The External Relations Associate Internship at UNHCR Algiers is a full-time position focused on supporting the implementation of external relations, fundraising, donor visibility, communications, and reporting strategies. The role emphasizes reporting and visibility for the Sahrawi refugees in the Tindouf camps while also addressing the urban refugee response in Algeria. The intern will report to the Associate External Relations Officer and will be involved in various activities, including donor visibility tracking, social media content creation, media monitoring, and the preparation of reports and communication materials. This internship provides an opportunity to engage with critical humanitarian issues and contribute to the visibility and effectiveness of UNHCR's operations in Algeria.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the External Relations Associate include supporting donor visibility and recognition through tracking opportunities and maintaining a donor visibility calendar. The intern will draft social media content, design graphic materials, and liaise with colleagues to identify donor-funded activities for visibility. In terms of communications and digital content, the intern will contribute to social media planning, draft protection-sensitive communication content, and produce visual stories highlighting UNHCR's work. Media monitoring will involve tracking coverage related to refugees and preparing media digests. The intern will also support the preparation of narrative reports and visibility materials related to the Tindouf refugee response, assist in fundraising tasks, and provide logistical support for events and donor missions. Performance will be monitored through qualitative and quantitative indicators aligned with UNHCR's priorities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of UNHCR's mandate and humanitarian principles, along with excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills. The ability to translate complex operational information into clear content for donors and the public is essential. Experience in digital communications, social media management, and donor visibility is required, along with proficiency in graphic design and audiovisual production. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a multicultural team environment are also necessary. Candidates should demonstrate discretion and ethical awareness in handling sensitive information.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in external relations, communications, public information, reporting, or fundraising support. Experience in drafting narrative reports and working with UN agencies or NGOs is considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is required for this position, while knowledge of Arabic is an asset. Proficiency in additional languages will also be considered beneficial.
