Job Overview: The IBG Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the COMPASS II Phase Project, which focuses on enhancing legal identity and biometric registration processes. This position requires collaboration with various units within IOM and external stakeholders, including government authorities and law enforcement agencies. The assistant will be responsible for monitoring project activities, compiling and presenting data, and ensuring that project budgets are managed effectively. The role also involves drafting reports and correspondence, organizing meetings and training sessions, and responding to inquiries. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of migration issues and be able to work effectively in a multicultural environment, contributing to the overall goals of the IBG Unit.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities related to legal identity and biometric registration.
Retrieve, compile, summarize, and present information/data on project-related topics.
Monitor project budgets, verify fund availability, and update budget-related information as necessary.
Coordinate administrative tasks related to project implementation, including liaising with various organizational units and external parties.
Draft status reports highlighting project delivery shortfalls and communicate these to the supervisor.
Prepare correspondence, reports, briefing notes, and other documentation as required.
Organize meetings, workshops, travel missions, and training sessions for project stakeholders.
Respond to general information requests and maintain organized files and records.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma with four years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited institution with two years of relevant professional experience.
Experience in supporting liaison activities with governmental authorities and international organizations.
Familiarity with migration issues, particularly concerning vulnerable groups such as migrants and refugees.
Prior experience with international humanitarian organizations is an advantage.
Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor programming processes is beneficial.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess either a high school diploma with four years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited academic institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in political or social sciences, international relations, or related disciplines, equipping candidates with the necessary analytical and communication skills required for the role.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience if holding a Bachelor’s degree, or four years of experience if holding a high school diploma. Experience should include supporting liaison activities with governmental authorities and working with international organizations. Familiarity with migration issues, particularly in relation to vulnerable populations, is essential. Previous work experience in a multicultural setting, especially with international humanitarian organizations, is considered advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is required for this position, both oral and written. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in these languages, as proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process. A working knowledge of Arabic is desirable, as it may enhance communication with local stakeholders. IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages is crucial for effective collaboration within the organization.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning only candidates with a valid residence and work permit for Algeria will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification and verification of residency and visa requirements. The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
