Job Overview:
The position involves providing specialized illustration services to support the creation or adaptation of UNICEF's editorial materials. Selected candidates will join a roster of experts who will be called upon for specific tasks based on detailed work orders. The role requires coordination with UNICEF's Communications team and program specialists to ensure that the illustrations meet the required specifications. The consultant will analyze project requirements, develop illustrations according to specific guidelines, and ensure that all deliverables are of high quality and submitted on time. The consultant will work remotely, utilizing their own tools and resources, and will retain copyright ownership of the illustrations while granting UNICEF the right to use them. The role emphasizes adherence to UNICEF's principles and guidelines, particularly regarding child protection and the prevention of abuse and exploitation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide specialized illustration services for UNICEF's editorial materials.
  • Coordinate with the Communications area and UNICEF program specialists to agree on product parameters.
  • Conduct a preliminary analysis of assigned projects to understand their purpose, target audience, and required formality level.
  • Develop illustrations according to specific requirements and present proposals for each requested illustration, ensuring quality and consistency with UNICEF's guidelines.
  • Deliver illustrations within established deadlines for review by UNICEF.
  • Make necessary adjustments to meet UNICEF's quality standards and deliver final high-resolution versions in digital format.
  • Ensure all illustrations are suitable for adaptation to large formats.
  • Follow UNICEF's Basic Commitments for Children and ensure all activities prevent abuse and exploitation.

Required Qualifications:
  • Academic background in Illustration, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, Advertising, or related fields. A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in illustration, visual communication, and/or fine arts. Previous experience with international organizations, UN agencies, or the social sector is valued.
  • Ability to develop illustrations with a creative, inclusive, and results-oriented approach.
  • Proficiency in illustration software, preferably compatible with Adobe Suite.
  • Experience in producing final artwork and understanding color nomenclature for print material preparation.
  • Effective time management skills and strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Ability to receive feedback and adjust illustrations as required.
  • Attention to detail and high-quality standards.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have formal education in fields related to illustration or visual arts. A Bachelor's degree is highly valued, as it demonstrates a foundational understanding of the principles and practices necessary for effective illustration work.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least 3 years of relevant experience in illustration, visual communication, or fine arts. Experience working with international organizations or UN agencies is considered an asset, as it indicates familiarity with the standards and expectations of such environments.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish (written, spoken, and read) is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not required.

Additional Notes:
The position is remote, allowing the consultant to work from their own location using their own tools and resources. The consultant will not be considered a 'staff member' of UNICEF and will not receive benefits typically afforded to employees, such as vacation or health insurance. The consultant is responsible for their own tax obligations and ensuring that they have valid health insurance for the duration of the contract. Selected candidates must confirm their full vaccination status against COVID-19 with a WHO-approved vaccine before starting their assignment, although this requirement does not apply to remote consultants. The roster's validity is a maximum of 36 months after the selection process is completed.
