Job Overview:
The Project Assistant position at IOM Greece is integral to the successful implementation of a medical project aimed at providing essential medical, nursing, and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support services to asylum seekers and beneficiaries of temporary protection. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the National Project Officer and the Project Assistant, assisting in the coordination, monitoring, and reporting of project activities. This role requires daily oversight of service providers to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and the effective coverage of beneficiaries' needs. The Project Assistant will collaborate closely with medical and psychosocial teams, addressing challenges that arise in the field and ensuring that all activities align with IOM's internal regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The position also involves conducting vulnerability assessments, managing protection cases, and developing individual action plans for migrants and refugees, ensuring that their needs are met and that they receive appropriate support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Project Assistant include:
  • Daily monitoring and supervision of services provided by service providers to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Collaborating with medical and psychosocial teams to address day-to-day activities requiring their assistance.
  • Keeping supervisors informed of any challenges encountered in the field, particularly those needing escalation for medical or psychosocial support.
  • Conducting vulnerability assessments for migrants and refugees and addressing their protection needs by liaising with competent agencies for specialized services.
  • Addressing the needs of vulnerable groups, including women at risk, children at risk, and the elderly, and referring cases for further treatment.
  • Maintaining comprehensive and updated case files for each case undertaken and ensuring timely updates in the project database.
  • Regularly mapping services on-site and off-site to ensure access for migrants and refugees.
  • Developing individual action plans for migrants and refugees and supporting the organization of regular team meetings to discuss case management and collect feedback on existing risks and challenges.
  • Escorting beneficiaries to public health facilities when requested by the supervisor. 1

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Project Assistant position include:
  • A university degree in Social Work from an accredited academic institution.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in a similar role.
  • A master's degree in Social Work is considered an advantage.
  • A license to practice social work is mandatory.
  • Membership with the Association of Greek Social Workers is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees is preferred, along with experience working in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Office, is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines is essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Social Work from an accredited institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. A master's degree in the same field is advantageous, and candidates must hold a valid license to practice social work.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of relevant work experience in a similar role. Previous experience in direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees is preferred, as is experience working in a multicultural environment. The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively is crucial for this position.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Greek, both written and oral, is required for this position. IOM's official languages also include French and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be beneficial. Language skills will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be eligible for consideration.
