Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position at OHCHR involves contributing to critical human rights reporting, analysis, and documentation specifically related to Haiti. Volunteers will engage in tasks that support the OHCHR Reporting Unit, producing deliverables that will be utilized in official UN human rights outputs. This role is vital for enhancing the quality and effectiveness of human rights documentation and reporting, which is essential for informing senior UN leadership and international stakeholders about the human rights situation in Haiti. Volunteers will have the opportunity to apply their skills in a meaningful way, directly impacting the promotion and protection of human rights in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The online volunteer will undertake one of the following tasks: 1) Human Rights Reporting: Draft two weekly human rights notes, each 2-3 pages long, summarizing key developments and issues. 2) Monitoring Review: Review 20 monitoring records and prepare a gap analysis note of 3-4 pages identifying areas needing attention. 3) Legal & Policy Analysis: Analyze a national law or public policy to assess its compliance with international human rights standards. 4) Case Documentation: Prepare 10 anonymized case summaries in accordance with OHCHR methodology to ensure confidentiality and adherence to ethical standards. 5) Gender Integration: Review three draft reports and create a gender-integration memo with recommendations, 2-3 pages in length, to enhance gender considerations in reporting. 6) Stakeholder Research: Prepare a background research brief of 3-4 pages that provides context and insights relevant to human rights issues in Haiti.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong analytical and writing skills, with a background in human rights, law, social sciences, or related fields. Familiarity with international human rights standards and mechanisms is essential. Volunteers should be able to work independently and demonstrate a commitment to human rights principles. Proficiency in research methodologies and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise reports are also required.

Educational Background:
A degree in law, human rights, international relations, social sciences, or a related field is preferred. Advanced studies or relevant certifications in human rights or international law would be advantageous.

Experience:
Previous experience in human rights reporting, legal analysis, or policy review is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and its human rights mechanisms will be considered an asset. Experience in research and documentation, particularly in a volunteer or internship capacity, is beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of French or Spanish is considered a strong asset, given the context of Haiti and the nature of the work.
