Job Overview:
The Senior Communications and Public Information Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the ILO's project aimed at improving electronic waste management in Zambia, particularly in the Central Province. This position involves developing and implementing communication strategies that promote the project's objectives, which include training youth, women, and persons with disabilities in e-waste management and entrepreneurship. The assistant will be responsible for creating engaging content for various media platforms, coordinating media relations, and ensuring consistent messaging across all communication channels. The role requires a proactive approach to promoting project initiatives and engaging with stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable e-waste management and its benefits for the community. The successful candidate will work closely with the Technical Officer and other project team members to ensure that communication efforts align with the project's goals and the ILO's branding requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide specialized support services in communication and information management, including promotion, advocacy, media relations, and events management.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive project communication strategy and a social media strategy.
  • Create audiovisual content for social media and the ILO website, including videos, graphics, and photographs.
  • Ensure consistent media messaging and manage content across various public communication channels.
  • Lead media engagement efforts, including organizing press conferences and preparing press kits.
  • Develop creative communication materials to showcase project achievements and document lessons learned.
  • Promote project initiatives through engaging content across public communication channels.
  • Guide the production of publications and audiovisual products, coordinating with vendors and service providers.
  • Provide communication support for project events and community engagement activities. 1
  • Maintain and update webpages, databases, and web content management systems. 1
  • Monitor media output related to ILO activities and draft press releases and media kits. 1
  • Analyze communication campaigns and provide recommendations for strategy revisions. 1
  • Stay updated on communication management techniques and provide training to staff. 1
  • Perform any other relevant duties as requested by the Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of secondary school education plus formal training in communication, media studies, journalism, public relations, or information management-related area is required. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of communication principles and multimedia techniques, as well as experience in developing and implementing communication strategies. Familiarity with design and content creation tools, as well as photography and videography tools, is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in managing multimedia communication products and services, particularly in the context of development projects.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary school education and possess formal training in relevant fields such as communication, media studies, journalism, public relations, or information management. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication and information management in a project setting.

Experience:
A minimum of six years of office support work experience is required, with a significant portion of that experience related to communication or information management support services. Candidates should have experience in multimedia communication activities, including social media and digital formats. Experience in development-funded projects implemented by national or international NGOs or UN agencies is an advantage. Proven experience in developing communication strategies and managing consultants is also preferred.

Languages:
Excellent command of English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if it enhances communication with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a fixed-term contract for one year, with the possibility of extension based on funding availability and performance. The entry-level salary for this position is K545,344 (Zambian Kwacha) per year. The selected candidate is expected to commence work no later than 30 March 202
