Job Overview: The position of Regional Consultant at Mercy Corps involves joining a centralized and pre-vetted roster of technical specialists who will provide advisory services and support ongoing programs, new business opportunities, and strategic initiatives across Asia. Consultants will be engaged on an as-needed basis, depending on their specific technical expertise. The role requires applicants to clearly indicate their thematic areas of expertise and prior experience in relevant countries. The consultants will work across various technical areas, including Market Systems Development, Climate Resilient Agriculture, Integrated Water Resource Management, WASH, Climate Change Adaptation, Anticipatory Action and Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Risk Insurance, Climate Finance, and Cost and Pricing. Each consultant will be expected to contribute to the design and implementation of programs that enhance community resilience and address pressing challenges in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: Consultants will be responsible for a range of activities depending on their area of expertise. These may include conducting technical assessments and analyses, such as needs assessments, market assessments, and climate risk profiles. They will provide expert technical advice to Mercy Corps teams and partners, helping to strengthen program design and implementation. Consultants will also be involved in designing or refining program approaches, tools, and methodologies, ensuring alignment with Mercy Corps’ global and regional frameworks. Additionally, they will develop high-quality written products, including reports, proposals, and technical briefs, and support business development efforts by leading or assisting in proposal writing and technical designs. Facilitating stakeholder engagement through consultations and coordination meetings will also be a key responsibility. Consultants will report to the Deputy Regional Director Asia – Programs and collaborate closely with various teams within Mercy Corps.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess technical expertise in one or more of the outlined areas, such as Market Systems Development, climate-resilient agriculture, water resource management, WASH, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, climate financing, and proposal budgeting. A minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience in one or more technical areas in Asia is required. Proven ability to provide high-quality technical advisory support, including in program design and strategy development, is essential. Candidates should have a thorough understanding of at least one of the following countries: Afghanistan, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Nepal, or Uzbekistan.
