Job Overview: The National Consultant for Community Consultations on Cooperatives, Farming Households, and Agro-Dealers will play a crucial role in facilitating community engagement and consultations. This position is designed for a period of 20 working days over two months, during which the consultant will be responsible for gathering insights and feedback from local communities regarding their experiences and needs related to cooperatives and farming practices. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including farmers, cooperative members, and agro-dealers, to ensure that their voices are heard and considered in the development of policies and programs. The role requires a deep understanding of the agricultural sector in Somalia and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups. The consultant will also be expected to analyze the data collected during consultations and provide recommendations based on the findings.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the National Consultant include but are not limited to:
Conducting community consultations with farming households, cooperatives, and agro-dealers to gather qualitative data on their needs and challenges.
Developing consultation tools and methodologies that are culturally appropriate and effective in engaging local communities.
Analyzing the data collected from consultations and preparing comprehensive reports that summarize findings and provide actionable recommendations.
Collaborating with UNDP and other stakeholders to ensure that the consultation process aligns with broader development goals and initiatives.
Facilitating workshops and meetings to present findings and gather further input from stakeholders.
Ensuring that all consultations are conducted in a transparent and inclusive manner, respecting the rights and voices of all participants.
Providing ongoing support and guidance to UNDP in the implementation of recommendations derived from the consultations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in community engagement, agricultural development, or a related field. A proven track record of conducting consultations or participatory research is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in diverse cultural contexts. Familiarity with the agricultural landscape in Somalia and experience working with local communities are highly desirable. Candidates should also have strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and actionable recommendations.
Educational Background: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences, social sciences, development studies, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Candidates should have formal training in participatory research methods and community engagement techniques.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in community consultations, agricultural development, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of development projects in Somalia or similar environments, is highly valued. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the challenges faced by farming households and cooperatives in the region.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Somali is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders. Proficiency in other languages relevant to the region may also be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of 20 working days over a two-month period. The consultant will be expected to work flexibly and may need to travel within Somalia to conduct consultations. The position is part-time, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
