Job Overview:
The online volunteer position is designed to support the finance team at UNDP Kenya by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The volunteer will report directly to the Finance Manager and will be responsible for daily bookkeeping, reconciliations, and basic reporting to aid in budgeting and decision-making processes. This role is part-time and remote, allowing for flexibility while contributing to the important work of auditing a grant to one of UNDP's partners. The volunteer will play a vital role in ensuring that financial operations run smoothly and that all records are kept up to date and compliant with necessary standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the online volunteer include assisting in checking the supporting documents of expenditures, contributing to the automation and optimization of reporting processes, creating differentiation on Excel for approved expenditures, and checking expenditures of sub-grantees. The volunteer will also be expected to produce cleaned and well-documented datasets and reports, provide weekly status updates, and prepare a final presentation/report summarizing the work completed. The role requires attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of financial accuracy and compliance.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for this position should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a good understanding of financial processes. Familiarity with accounting standards and practices is essential, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data management and reporting. The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment is also important, as the volunteer will be working closely with the Finance Unit and the Finance/Peace Building Unit.

Educational Background:
A background in finance, accounting, or a related field is preferred for this position. Candidates should ideally have completed or be pursuing a degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a similar discipline. Relevant coursework or certifications in financial management or accounting practices will be advantageous.

Experience:
While prior experience in finance or accounting is beneficial, it is not strictly required. However, candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the financial processes of UNDP. Experience with data analysis and reporting, particularly in a volunteer or internship capacity, will be considered a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all reporting and communication will be conducted in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the local context in Kenya, would be considered an asset but is not required.
