Job Overview:
The Project Coordinator position is critical for coordinating and strengthening protection assistance for vulnerable migrants, particularly focusing on the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) programme. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Chief of Mission in Slovakia and the thematic supervision of the Head of the Migrant Protection Unit. The role involves providing specialized counseling, supporting staff and partners through capacity-building activities, and ensuring effective identification, protection, and assistance of vulnerable migrants in line with IOM standards. Additionally, the Project Coordinator will support project development and resource mobilization by mapping Country Office needs, tracking donor funding opportunities, and contributing to concept note and proposal development in collaboration with thematic teams. The position also serves as a liaison between internal units, partners, HQ, and the Liaison Office, contributing to internal policy, strategy, and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development to ensure quality and consistency in project implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Independently lead and coordinate the implementation of the project; monitor activities to ensure compliance with established plans; analyze implementation difficulties and recommend adjustments to work plans as necessary.
  • Regularly research, compile, analyze, and present information/data on national, regional, and international developments relevant to the project.
  • Monitor budget expenditures; verify fund availability and maintain proper records of approved project budgets and revisions.
  • Coordinate and monitor financial, administrative, and technical aspects of the project in line with IOM policies and donor requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance for drafting concept notes, project narratives, work plans, and other project-related documents.
  • Collaborate with PSU and thematic units to identify new funding opportunities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct capacity-building workshops for relevant parties.
  • Participate in meetings and conferences; maintain effective liaison with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, NGOs, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the preparation of correspondence, briefing notes, presentations, and reports; ensure timely submission of status reports. 1
  • Identify and document good practices and lessons learned; contribute to the development of SOPs, policies, and concept papers. 1
  • Supervise and provide guidance and training to reporting staff. 1
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION: A school diploma with seven years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited institution with five years of relevant professional experience. EXPERIENCE: Experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and other vulnerable groups. Demonstrated experience in project development, resource mobilization, and managing protection or assistance projects. Experience in capacity-building and training for staff and community partners on migrant protection and rights. Skills in developing training programs and workshops for diverse audiences. Experience in external communication, including report writing and liaising with partners and donors. Prior work with international organizations, NGOs, or government institutions in multicultural settings is advantageous.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a school diploma with seven years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, or Law, accompanied by five years of relevant professional experience. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of migration and the legal frameworks surrounding it.

Experience:
The position requires significant experience, specifically in working with vulnerable populations such as migrants and refugees. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in project development, resource mobilization, and managing protection or assistance projects, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting. Experience in capacity-building and training for various stakeholders is also crucial, as is familiarity with multi-sectoral assistance and needs assessments for vulnerable groups.

Languages:
Fluency in Slovak and English is required for this position, both oral and written. Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an advantage. Proficiency in the required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
