Job Overview: The Research and Data Support Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the European Migration Network (EMN) Unit in Slovakia. This position involves assisting with the implementation of various EMN project activities, focusing on research, publication, and networking. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting desk research on migration, asylum, and integration, analyzing data, and contributing to the drafting and reviewing of EMN written outputs. The role also includes monitoring migration statistics at national, EU, and global levels, preparing analyses and summaries for EMN publications, and assisting with the dissemination of information to stakeholders. The assistant will support the organization of national events and meetings, participate in EMN meetings, and engage in awareness-raising activities aimed at specific target groups and the wider public.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in desk and pre-research on migration, asylum, and integration from various sources.
Analyze and compile gathered data and information, contributing to drafting or reviewing EMN written outputs.
Monitor, collect, and update migration statistics at national, EU, and global levels; prepare analyses, charts, tables, or summaries for EMN publications and internal briefs.
Draft briefs on changes in Slovak/EU migration legislation and policies as needed.
Edit and finalize EMN publications in line with IOM guidelines, including formatting and proofreading.
Disseminate EMN publications and information to network members and stakeholders in a timely manner.
Maintain and update contact lists and internal trackers relevant to stakeholder engagement.
Support the organization and implementation of EMN national events/meetings, including preparation of materials.
Participate in EMN meetings organized by the European Commission and provide necessary expert support. 1
Engage in awareness-raising activities aimed at specific target groups and the wider public. 1
Assist in evaluating project progress and flagging any delays or inconsistencies. 1
Maintain internal files, databases, and trackers related to research, statistics, and publications. 1
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Mission and direct supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong communication and content writing skills, excellent research data analysis capabilities, and very good organizational skills. They should be able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision. Teamwork and coordination skills are essential for liaising with internal units, partners, and stakeholders. Attention to detail and adherence to IOM standards and guidelines are crucial. A valid driving license (Category B) is considered an advantage.
Educational Background: A university degree in Humanities, International Relations, Political or Social Sciences, or a related field from an accredited academic institution is required, along with at least three years of relevant professional experience in similar roles. Alternatively, a completed High School degree from an accredited institution with at least five years of relevant working experience is acceptable. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: Candidates should have experience in assisting or conducting research or analyses, preferably in the field of migration. Experience working with migration statistical data, writing, reviewing, and editing documents is essential. Relevant working experience in networking tasks and organizing meetings/events is also required. Experience working with governments, civil society, and the European Commission is advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is mandatory, and experience in migration management is a plus.
Languages: Fluency in Slovak and English is required, both oral and written. Working knowledge of any other IOM official languages (English, French, Spanish) is considered an advantage. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Slovakia will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations.
