Job Overview:
The WASH Technical Assistant position is designed to contribute specific technical competencies to the implementation of projects related to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). This role typically involves field responsibilities, which may vary based on the project's requirements. The WASH Technical Assistant will be expected to assist in the implementation of the support function portfolio according to the established plan of action. This includes preparing and developing status reports as required by management, ensuring proper documentation, and promoting ideas for improving the support function. The role also encompasses responsibilities such as beneficiary assessment, project planning, implementation, and monitoring of shelter construction activities. The WASH Technical Assistant will participate in field missions, monitor WASH activities, and provide technical assistance to beneficiaries, ensuring that all project data is accurately collected and reported. The position requires a proactive approach to community engagement, including training community workers on latrine design and conducting meetings with local authorities and stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The WASH Technical Assistant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: adhering to NRC policies and guidelines; assisting with the implementation of the support function portfolio; preparing status reports; maintaining proper filing of documents; conducting assessments and selecting vulnerable beneficiaries; planning and implementing shelter construction activities; participating in field missions; collecting and analyzing shelter data; maintaining documentation for WASH beneficiaries; distributing hygiene kits; developing holistic programs including cash-based interventions; training beneficiaries and community workers; ensuring quality maintenance of shelters and latrines; producing regular reports; coordinating material logistics; and participating in NRC staff seminars and training. Specific responsibilities will be adapted to the job location and context, including assessing hygiene situations, preparing drawings and BoQs for WASH packages, and ensuring the inclusion of cash-based interventions in program strategies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the WASH Technical Assistant position should possess a range of qualifications, including experience working within a technical expertise area in a humanitarian or recovery context. Previous experience in complex displacement contexts is essential, along with documented results related to the position's responsibilities. Knowledge of cash-based interventions and market-based programs is required, as well as some knowledge of the English language. Candidates should also demonstrate computer literacy and fluency in the local language, Pashtu or Dari, both written and verbal.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, or a relevant field. Candidates should have experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring construction projects, with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with NGOs in a similar WASH field. Previous work experience with satisfactory performance in the same or similar functional area, preferably with international NGOs, is highly desirable.

Experience:
The WASH Technical Assistant position requires a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in the WASH sector, particularly in humanitarian or recovery contexts. Candidates should have a proven track record of working effectively in complex and displacement situations, demonstrating their ability to adapt to challenging environments and deliver results. Experience with cash-based interventions and market-based programs will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in the local language, either Pashtu or Dari, is mandatory for this position, both in written and verbal communication. Additionally, some knowledge of the English language is required to facilitate communication and reporting within the organization and with external stakeholders.
