Job Overview:
The Digital Justice and AI in the Justice System Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Rule of Law, Human Rights, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security team at the UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub. This internship is designed for individuals interested in the intersection of technology and justice, particularly in the context of digital transformation and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in justice systems. The intern will assist in various research and knowledge management activities, contributing to the development of policy briefs, presentations, and communication materials related to digital justice initiatives. The position offers an opportunity to engage with regional partners, justice sector institutions, and other UN entities, providing valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities in the justice sector in the Asia-Pacific region. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist, gaining hands-on experience in analytical and communication outputs that support UNDP's regional work on digital justice and AI.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Research and Policy Support on Digital Justice and AI (60%): Conducting desk research and background analysis on digital justice and the deployment of AI in justice systems, supporting the preparation of policy briefs, concept notes, presentations, and analytical summaries on relevant topics, and documenting good practices and case studies from Asia-Pacific countries.
  • Knowledge Management and Communications on Digital Justice (30%): Assisting in the development of knowledge products and communication materials related to digital justice initiatives, maintaining and updating knowledge repositories and digital platforms, and supporting the regional Community of Practice of the Governance, Rule of Law, and Peacebuilding Hub.
  • Other (10%): Participating in team meetings and brainstorming sessions, providing input on strategy and content creation, and supporting any other relevant tasks as identified by the supervisor and the RoLHR team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in working in an international organization and possess effective communication skills for teamwork and independent work. They should be organized and capable of managing various tasks and responsibilities. Cultural sensitivity and adaptability are essential, as is a positive attitude towards feedback and differing viewpoints. The ideal candidate will have a goal-oriented mindset and be proactive in their approach to work.

Educational Background:
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements: currently in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree, currently enrolled in a Master’s degree, or have graduated no longer than one year ago from a bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent studies. A background in fields such as Technology and Society, Digital Governance, International Development, Law, Political Science, Sociology, or other related fields in Social Sciences or Humanities is preferred. Proven thematic knowledge on the Rule of Law in Asia is considered an asset.

Experience:
The position requires demonstrated interest or academic exposure to rule of law, justice reform, digital governance, or AI and human rights. Candidates should possess strong research, analytical, and drafting skills in English, with the ability to synthesize complex technical or policy information into clear written outputs. Familiarity with digital tools, data visualization, or knowledge management platforms is an asset. IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and various AI tools and platforms, are also required.

Languages:
Excellent writing and drafting skills in English are mandatory, along with good communication skills. Knowledge of other UN languages is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage in a multicultural environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid, but UNDP will provide a monthly stipend in accordance with its internship policy. The stipend for 2025 is set at THB 8,302.50 per month, with the amount for 2026 subject to change. Interns are responsible for all expenses related to the internship, including travel, accommodation, and health insurance. They must also obtain necessary visas and are not eligible to apply for any post in UNDP during the internship period. Interns are expected to work full-time, although flexibility is allowed for educational commitments.
