Job Overview: The Vehicle Auto Electrician plays a crucial role in maintaining the UN fleet by addressing all aspects of auto-electrical maintenance and repair. This position involves diagnosing electrical issues, repairing or replacing components, and ensuring that all electrical systems in UN vehicles are functioning optimally. The role requires a strong understanding of vehicle electrical systems, including battery systems, lighting, and diagnostics. The Vehicle Auto Electrician will work closely with mechanics to ensure integrated repairs and will be responsible for maintaining service logs and preparing reports on maintenance activities. This position is essential for ensuring the reliability and safety of the UN fleet, contributing to the overall mission of UNDP in Liberia.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Vehicle Auto Electrician will be responsible for the following key functions: conducting electrical diagnostics using tools such as multimeters and OBD2 scanners; repairing or replacing electrical wiring, fuses, relays, switches, and lighting systems; installing or troubleshooting alternators, starters, batteries, and ignition systems; calibrating and maintaining dashboard instruments and control systems; ensuring compliance with electrical safety standards; collaborating with mechanics for integrated repairs; recording all maintenance work and diagnostics into service logs; and assisting in preparing periodic reports on electrical maintenance activities. The incumbent may also perform other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess secondary education as a minimum requirement. A university degree in Auto Electrical Systems, Automotive Engineering, or a related field will be considered an advantage but is not mandatory. The position requires a solid understanding of auto-electrical systems and the ability to perform diagnostics and repairs effectively. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to safety and compliance with electrical standards, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with other team members and stakeholders.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes secondary education as a minimum. A Bachelor’s degree in Auto Electrical Systems, Automotive Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not essential. Candidates should have a strong foundation in automotive electrical systems and maintenance practices, which can be gained through formal education or vocational training.
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in auto-electrical systems and automotive maintenance is required for this position. Candidates with a high school diploma must have at least 2 years of experience, while those with a university degree may have a slightly reduced requirement depending on their educational background and relevant experience. Experience in a similar role within an international organization or a governmental agency is considered an asset.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the working language of UNDP. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly local languages spoken in Liberia, is considered a valuable asset and may enhance communication with local stakeholders and communities.
