Job Overview:
The position of Vertical Chief Economist for Planet at the World Bank involves serving as the principal economic adviser within the vertical, directly reporting to the World Bank Group Chief Economist and the Senior Vice President of the Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC). This role is crucial for coordinating research, data, and impact services for the vertical, ensuring that the economic analysis aligns with the policy priorities of the vertical and regional departments. The Chief Economist will work closely with various departments to scale successful initiatives and improve economic analysis, thereby contributing to the World Bank's mission of delivering knowledge for impact and supporting operational teams and clients in achieving scalable results. The Chief Economist will also manage a small team, oversee analytical work, and facilitate the implementation of impact evaluations, promoting evidence-based policy design.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Chief Economist will be responsible for advising the Vertical Vice President and leadership team on economic risks and opportunities, leveraging DEC work programs and operational experience. Key duties include leading and managing a small team within the Vertical Chief Economist Office, ensuring quality control and oversight of analytical work, leading research and flagship reports in collaboration with the DEC Research Group, and assisting the DEC Research Director in supervising the research program for the vertical. The Chief Economist will also facilitate the implementation of impact evaluations, promote evidence-based policy design, and ensure the dissemination of development data. Additionally, the role involves implementing protocols for global policy indicators and being accountable for corporate priorities related to policy research and development data.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a PhD in economics or public policy, with a strong publication record in themes relevant to the Planet vertical. A demonstrated ability to leverage expertise both within and outside the World Bank Group is essential. Applicants should have a proven track record of published policy research, high-quality analytical work, and effective policy advice. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills are required, along with the ability to guide the research agenda of the DEC research team and contribute to knowledge sharing and capacity building.
