The role is situated within the Office of the Director in the Division of Technology and Logistics, which is responsible for enhancing trade logistics, capacity-building programs, and the implementation of technical cooperation initiatives. Interns will be involved in various research and policy analysis tasks, contributing to the Division's communication efforts, and supporting the organization of events and activities. The internship aims to enhance the educational experience of the interns while providing valuable insights into the UN's operations and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will assist in conducting research and policy analysis on various topics related to trade, technology, and development, including trade facilitation, value chains, and e-commerce. They will help prepare briefing notes and speeches for the Director, as well as assist in the evaluation of documents relevant to the Division's work. Interns will also support the organization of events and communication exercises, provide logistical support for technical assistance activities, and summarize meetings and conferences related to the Division's affairs. Additionally, interns are expected to adhere to the UN's rules and regulations, respect confidentiality, and maintain the organization's impartiality and independence.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program or the final year of a bachelor's degree. They should demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and possess strong computer skills. No prior work experience is required, but a relevant field of study is necessary. Interns should be able to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and demonstrate a commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a master's or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided during the application process. The educational background should be closely related to the internship's focus areas, such as international relations, economics, or development studies.
Experience: No prior professional work experience is required for this internship. However, relevant coursework, training, or skills that can benefit the UN during the internship are encouraged. The program is designed to provide practical experience rather than requiring extensive prior experience.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's profile and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid, and all costs related to travel, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern. Interns must have a valid visa if they are undertaking the internship in person. Interns are not eligible to apply for professional-level positions within the UN for six months after completing their internship.
