Job Overview:
As a Theoretical Particle Physics Scientist at CERN, you will participate in the organization’s scientific programmes, leveraging your established expertise and existing professional relationship with CERN. Duties and Responsibilities:
Your primary responsibilities will include conducting scientific activities in theoretical particle physics within CERN’s research environment. You will contribute to theoretical particle physics programmes and related research activities, collaborating closely with CERN’s theoretical physics teams. Engaging in scientific discussions and contributing to the development of new theoretical frameworks will be key aspects of your role. You will also be expected to bring your analytical and theoretical expertise to the table, effectively contributing to advanced theoretical research and fostering scientific collaboration within the organization. Additionally, you will be involved in mentoring junior researchers and participating in outreach activities to promote CERN’s scientific mission.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, you must be an established and experienced scientist with a strong academic background in theoretical particle physics. You should have a proven track record of involvement in research and/or advanced academic activities in your field. An existing professional relationship with CERN or its theoretical physics programmes is essential. Furthermore, you should demonstrate strong analytical and theoretical expertise, with the ability to work effectively in an international and research-driven environment. Clear and professional communication skills in a scientific context are also required, particularly in English and/or French.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a PhD or equivalent in theoretical particle physics or a closely related field. A strong academic record and a demonstrated commitment to research excellence are essential. Additional qualifications such as postdoctoral experience or relevant publications in high-impact journals will be advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience in theoretical particle physics, ideally with a minimum of several years of postdoctoral research experience. Candidates should have a strong publication record and a history of successful collaboration in international research projects. Experience working in large-scale scientific collaborations or research institutions will be highly regarded.

Languages:

  • The contract duration is up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to 24 months, depending on performance and project needs. The position requires full-time commitment with weekly working hours of 4
  • A subsistence allowance ranging from 6683 to 9465 Swiss Francs per month (tax-free) will be provided, depending on experience. Additional benefits include 2.5 days of authorized absences per month, a family supplement to the subsistence allowance based on individual circumstances, and travel expenses to Geneva upon joining CERN. Candidates must remain employed by their home institute during their appointment at CERN and must be below the CERN retirement age by the application deadline.
