Job Overview: The Vietnam Project Director is responsible for leading and directing the implementation of the Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection Systems (STRIDES) Activity in Vietnam. This role is crucial for enhancing global health priorities within the country, focusing on strengthening laboratory and surveillance systems to effectively respond to emerging infectious diseases and public health threats. The Project Director will manage all aspects of the Activity, including personnel, budget, and technical responsibilities, while serving as the primary liaison with local government and global health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security partners. The position requires the development and implementation of annual work plans, monitoring and evaluation activities, and ensuring compliance with policies and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Director will plan, direct, and coordinate the implementation of the STRIDES Activity, ensuring that all goals and objectives are met within the specified timeframes and funding parameters. Responsibilities include establishing work plans and teams, managing technical and operational staff, and fostering a safe and equitable work environment. The Director will manage relationships with government counterparts and multisectoral partners, serve as the primary contact for collaboration, and oversee the development of technical work plans and budgets. Additionally, the role involves ensuring timely delivery of high-quality reports, providing guidance and training to staff, and supporting performance management and professional development.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of project management principles and practices, with a strong preference for familiarity with international Global Health Security frameworks. Excellent project management skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with clients and staff. Strong influencing and negotiation skills are required, as well as experience in developing partnerships with government and implementing partners. Leadership skills in managing staff within a matrixed organization are crucial, along with critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in public health or related health fields is required, with a Master’s degree preferred. Project management certification is also preferred, indicating a formal recognition of the candidate's project management capabilities.
Experience: Typically, candidates should have at least 10 years of relevant experience in project management, including a minimum of 5 years in a managerial role. Experience with US Department of State or other donor regulations is necessary, along with demonstrated knowledge in managing health projects related to infectious diseases. Experience in Global Health Security projects and working across multiple sectors is desirable, as is a background in developing and mentoring staff.
Languages: Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking) is required, along with fluency in Vietnamese. These language skills are essential for effective communication within the role and with local partners.
