Job Overview:
The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker will play a crucial role in the IOM's community-based mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) program in Ukraine, which has become increasingly vital due to the ongoing humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the war that escalated in February 202
  • This position involves working within a psychosocial mobile team (PMT) to provide essential social support and facilitate access to mental health services for affected populations. The Psychosocial Worker will be responsible for integrating MHPSS considerations into community activities, conducting training sessions on Psychological First Aid (PFA) and other relevant topics, and supporting the organization of community initiatives aimed at enhancing psychosocial well-being. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including humanitarian actors and local partners, to ensure effective service delivery and community engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: collaborating with the Senior MHPSS Associate and team members to integrate MHPSS into community-based activities; conducting training sessions on PFA, stress management, and conflict management; providing individual and group counseling to affected individuals; developing and disseminating awareness campaigns related to mental health; assisting in MHPSS needs assessments and data collection; managing partnerships with local implementing partners; organizing cultural and recreational activities; ensuring proper documentation and reporting of activities; and performing other duties as assigned. The role requires a proactive approach to community engagement and a commitment to enhancing the resilience of vulnerable populations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology, Psychotherapy, Social Sciences, Social Work, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in MHPSS, community-based work, or humanitarian interventions is required. Previous experience in mental health and social protection activities is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including those from different cultural backgrounds. Fluency in Ukrainian is mandatory, and a working knowledge of English is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology, Psychotherapy, Social Sciences, or Social Work. This foundational education is essential for understanding the complexities of mental health and psychosocial support, particularly in a humanitarian context. Candidates should have a solid grasp of psychological principles and practices, as well as the ability to apply these in community settings to support individuals affected by crises.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least 2 years of professional experience in mental health and psychosocial support, community-based work, or related humanitarian interventions. Experience in working with vulnerable populations, particularly in crisis situations, is highly valued. Candidates should be prepared for frequent travel within Ukraine and demonstrate a readiness to respond to emergencies as they arise. Languages:
Fluency in Ukrainian is a mandatory requirement for this position, as effective communication with the local population is crucial for the success of the MHPSS program. Additional Notes:
This consultancy position may involve travel across various regions of Ukraine, and candidates should be prepared for potential emergency deployments with short notice. The appointment is contingent upon funding confirmation and the candidate's medical fitness for the role. IOM provides coverage for occupational accidents and illnesses under its Compensation Plan, but consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational issues.
