Job Overview:
The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker will play a crucial role in the IOM's community-based mental health and psychosocial support program in Ukraine, particularly in response to the heightened needs arising from the ongoing humanitarian crisis. This position involves working as part of a psychosocial mobile team (PMT) to deliver essential social support services to affected populations. The Psychosocial Worker will be responsible for integrating mental health considerations into community activities, conducting training sessions on Psychological First Aid (PFA) and other relevant topics, and providing individual and group counseling as needed. The role also includes developing awareness campaigns and conducting assessments to improve access to psychosocial services. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with local partners and community members to foster resilience and support recovery efforts in the aftermath of the crisis.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Collaborating with the Senior MHPSS Associate and team members to integrate mental health and psychosocial support into community-based activities.
  • Conducting training sessions on Psychological First Aid, stress management, team building, conflict management, and communication skills for humanitarian actors and community volunteers.
  • Supporting the strengthening of social networks and organizing support groups and cultural initiatives to enhance community well-being.
  • Providing individual and group counseling to individuals in need.
  • Developing and disseminating awareness messages and psychoeducation sessions related to mental health.
  • Assisting in conducting MHPSS needs assessments and data collection to improve service access.
  • Managing partnerships with local implementing partners to coordinate community-based activities.
  • Implementing MHPSS components of integrated programs supporting veterans and their families.
  • Traveling across Ukraine as needed for program implementation and emergency response. 1
  • Ensuring proper documentation and reporting of activities in line with IOM guidelines.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology, Psychotherapy, Social Sciences, Social Work, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience in mental health, social protection activities, or community-based work is required. Previous experience in humanitarian interventions and a track record of innovative work will be considered an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology, Psychotherapy, Social Sciences, or Social Work. This foundational education is essential for understanding the complexities of mental health and psychosocial support in a community context, particularly in crisis situations.

Experience:
The position requires at least 2 years of professional experience in mental health and psychosocial support, community-based work, or related humanitarian interventions. Candidates should have a proven ability to work collaboratively in teams and engage with a wide range of individuals, including those from culturally diverse backgrounds. Experience in emergency response and the ability to travel frequently within the target oblast are also essential.

Languages:
Fluency in Ukrainian is mandatory for this position, as effective communication with the local population is crucial. A working knowledge of English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate collaboration with international partners and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The position may require frequent travel across Ukraine, and candidates should be prepared for emergency response situations. The appointment is subject to funding confirmation and medical fitness certification. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses for consultants, but individuals are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational incidents.
