Job Overview: The Communication Officer – Branding and Design Lead will be responsible for managing and coordinating the branding direction and visual identity of the EIB Group across various digital and physical content. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the EIB's corporate communication strategy is effectively implemented, enhancing brand recognition and visual consistency. The officer will oversee the production of high-quality visual solutions that contribute to the EIB's external identity and reputation. This position requires a blend of creativity, strategic thinking, and project management skills, as the officer will work closely with internal teams and external agencies to deliver impactful branding initiatives. The role also involves staying updated with emerging design technologies and trends to continuously improve the EIB's visual communication efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain the EIB Group’s visual identity, ensuring consistency across all platforms.
Prepare and periodically update EIB logo guidelines.
Oversee the supply of branded materials for events, meetings, and conferences, and manage the ongoing development of the Web shop.
Provide art direction and coordinate designers, creative agencies (digital, web, print), and typesetting companies to ensure quality and brand coherence.
Manage day-to-day design and production operations, ensuring timely delivery to the highest standards.
Conceptualise and implement innovative designs for physical and digital products and content.
Create and maintain reusable visualisation templates — static and animated — for social media production.
Stay abreast of emerging technologies, particularly AI, in digital graphic design and animation.
Work closely with editors, marketers, social media and audiovisual specialists, and other colleagues to develop impactful visual stories that inspire engaging content across all media. 1
Encourage a culture of creative innovation within the team by sharing examples and facilitating experimentation with new formats and tools (e.g., AI-assisted design, data storytelling). 1
Regularly monitor and benchmark design and communication practices from leading institutions and brands to identify best practices, trends, and innovative formats for publications, digital products, and campaigns. 1
Ensure effective planning and budget management for design and production activities. 1
Contribute to the development and implementation of the EIB Group’s overall communication strategy and assist in setting division priorities and activities.
Required Qualifications:
University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in graphic art, design or related field.
At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in graphic arts or design within communication agencies or corporate/institutional environments, of which at least 3 years’ experience in managing design projects.
Comprehensive knowledge of multimedia and print production processes.
Experience in web design and digital design principles.
Awareness of the latest AI tools and applications for graphic design.
Background in advertising is considered an asset.
Basic understanding of the EU institutional and political framework.
Strong foundation in UX/UI design and familiarity with AI-enhanced workflows to deliver intuitive, responsive, and visually compelling digital experiences.
Proficiency in design software, particularly Adobe Creative Suite, and UX platforms such as Figma. 1
Excellent command of MS Office and template creation tools; good knowledge of mapping, animation, and infographic software.
Educational Background: A university degree, preferably in graphic art, design, or a related field, is required for this position. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in design principles, multimedia production, and communication strategies, equipping the candidate with the necessary skills to manage branding and design projects effectively.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in graphic arts or design, specifically within communication agencies or corporate/institutional environments. This experience should include a minimum of 3 years in managing design projects, demonstrating the ability to lead teams and coordinate complex design initiatives successfully.
Languages: Proficiency in English and/or French is essential, with a good command of the other language. Knowledge of additional EU languages would be considered an advantage. Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
Additional Notes: This is a full-time position at grade 5, and the EIB offers a permanent contract. Panel interviews are anticipated for the end of February 202
