Job Overview:
The Office of the Chief Economist (OCE) at the EBRD is seeking full-time summer interns to assist with the Transition Report and other economic research initiatives. The OCE is comprised of approximately 20 economists and analysts who provide intellectual leadership and support the Bank's operations by monitoring macroeconomic developments and risks. Interns will engage in various tasks, including analyzing household and enterprise surveys, preparing datasets, conducting statistical analyses, and contributing to the drafting of working papers or chapters for the Transition Report. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about economics and eager to contribute to impactful research that shapes economic policy in the EBRD's regions of operation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting analysis of household and enterprise surveys; downloading, cleaning, and preparing datasets related to macroeconomic and microeconomic issues; performing statistical analyses and creating visual representations of data such as graphs and charts for use in reports and presentations; and contributing to the drafting of working papers or chapters for the Transition Report. Interns will also be expected to collaborate with team members, manage their time effectively, and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality work standards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be Ph.D. candidates in Economics or a related field, or possess a Master’s degree in economics or a related field from a leading university. Exceptional candidates with a strong, quantitatively oriented Bachelor's degree in economics may also be considered. Strong quantitative skills are essential, including proficiency in spreadsheet and econometric/statistical software such as STATA, R, or Python. A good command of statistics and data analysis is required, along with the ability to work with large datasets effectively.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background in economics or a related field. A Ph.D. candidate or a Master's degree from a reputable institution is preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in a quantitatively oriented economics program may be considered in exceptional circumstances, indicating a flexible approach to educational qualifications based on the candidate's overall profile and skills.

Experience:
The position is aimed at candidates who are currently pursuing advanced degrees, such as a Ph.D. or Master's in Economics. While prior work experience is not explicitly required, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills and familiarity with economic research methodologies. Experience with data analysis and statistical software will be advantageous, as the role involves significant data handling and analysis.

Languages:
A good command of English is mandatory, as all work will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the EBRD's regions of operation may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's profile and ability to engage with diverse datasets and reports.
