Job Overview: The Social MediaIntern will play a crucial role in enhancing UNFPA's digital engagement, particularly through the production of engaging and high-impact mobile videos optimized for TikTok. This position is designed for a creative individual who is comfortable in front of the camera and has the ability to translate complex issues into relatable, youth-friendly content. The intern will work closely with the Digital Communications Team and the Social Media Specialist to ensure that all video outputs align with UNFPA's brand and values. The role involves content ideation, filming, and editing, with a focus on showcasing UNFPA's mandate and global priorities. The internship is structured to provide learning opportunities and skill enhancement through periodic progress meetings and a work plan that outlines achievements during the internship.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Social Media Intern will be responsible for producing on-camera mobile videos for TikTok, which includes filming and featuring in the videos. The intern will participate in content ideation, contributing creative concepts, scripts, and storyboards that align with UNFPA's campaigns and global priorities. Monitoring TikTok trends, formats, challenges, and audio trends will be essential to identify timely content opportunities. The intern will edit short-form videos using mobile or desktop tools to ensure high-quality, dynamic, and platform-optimized results. Drafting captions, overlays, on-screen text, and supporting copy that adhere to UNFPA's tone, brand, and accessibility guidelines will also be part of the responsibilities. Additionally, the intern will support the development and maintenance of a TikTok content calendar for priority moments and international days, coordinate with programme teams and communications colleagues to gather information and insights for content development, assist with publishing and scheduling TikTok content, and support the Social Media Team in managing UNFPA's global accounts and ongoing projects. Other duties may be assigned as required.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must demonstrate experience in creating TikTok or mobile video content, whether personal or professional. They should be comfortable appearing on camera and presenting content with clarity and confidence. Familiarity with TikTok trends, video formats, editing styles, and platform culture is essential. Basic video editing skills using desktop and mobile applications are required, along with strong storytelling ability and creative instincts. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory, while proficiency in other UN languages is considered an asset. The ability to work collaboratively, meet deadlines, and adapt to feedback is crucial, as is alignment with UNFPA's mission, values, and safeguarding principles.
Educational Background: Applicants to UNFPA's internship programme must meet one of the following educational requirements at the time of application: they must be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme or higher), be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent), or have recently graduated with a university degree as defined in the previous categories. If selected, they must start the internship within one year of graduation. Alternatively, applicants may be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme.

Additional Notes: The internship is offered as a full-time position, with the option to work in person in New York or remotely. The duration of the internship is set for either 24 weeks from 1 March 2026 to 16 August 2026 or from 1 September 2026 to 14 February 202
Interns do not receive a salary or any other form of remuneration from UNFPA; however, they will receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship if they are not financially supported by any institution or programme. Applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship, and proof of insurance will need to be submitted before the internship begins. UNFPA does not provide medical insurance for interns. Additionally, UNFPA does not charge any application, processing, training, interviewing, testing, or other fees in connection with the application or recruitment process.
