Job Overview:
The intern will support the effective delivery of the Regional Programme for Arab States (2026–2029), focusing on programme management support, knowledge management and research, and partnership building and communication. This role is crucial for assisting the Regional Programme Team in coordinating and monitoring projects and initiatives, as well as contributing to the development of knowledge products for both internal and external audiences. The intern will engage in desk-based research on thematic issues relevant to the programme, assist in preparing reports and communication materials, and support partnership engagement efforts. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic international organization while contributing to sustainable development initiatives in the Arab region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include:
  • Knowledge Management & Research: - Assisting in collecting lessons learned and best practices across regional projects. - Conducting desk-based research on relevant thematic issues such as inclusive growth, governance, digital innovation, and green economy. - Supporting the preparation of reports, briefs, and other knowledge products. - Contributing to the development of knowledge products for internal and external audiences.
  • Partnership Building & Communication: - Assisting in preparing partnership briefs, presentations, and communication materials for partnership engagement. - Supporting the identification of and engagement with prospective partners. - Assisting in the preparation of partnership proposals and outreach events.
  • Programme Management Support: - Supporting the Regional Programme Team in coordinating and monitoring projects and initiatives under the Regional Programme. - Assisting in organizing programme activities and events. - Providing support to the Results-Based Management specialist in maintaining programme monitoring and reporting.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme in media studies, journalism, communications, information systems, or a related field; (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in media studies, journalism, communications, information systems, or a related field; (c) Have recently graduated with a university degree in the aforementioned fields and must start the internship within one year of graduation; (d) Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program in the relevant fields and undertake the internship as part of this program. Relevant previous experience, particularly in communication and social media, is a plus, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and experience in supporting web and digital initiatives.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes enrollment in or completion of a degree in media studies, journalism, communications, information systems, or a related field. Candidates must demonstrate a strong academic foundation in these areas, which is essential for performing the duties associated with the internship effectively.

Experience:
Relevant previous experience is considered a plus for this internship position. Candidates with experience in communication and social media will have an advantage. Additionally, familiarity with Microsoft Office tools and experience in supporting web and digital initiatives, including content management and project-related activities, are beneficial for the role.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic and English, including speaking, writing, and reading, is required for this position. This bilingual proficiency is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the diverse environment of UNDP.

Additional Notes:
The internship is designed to provide a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation. The stipend amount will be determined based on the duty station and will be paid monthly. Interns will accrue combined sick and annual leave at the rate of 1.5 days per month, which will be prorated for part-time internships. Any accrued leave days not used by the end of the internship will be forfeited. UNDP has a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and misconduct, and all selected candidates will undergo rigorous reference and background checks.
