Job Overview: The Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in the implementation of the project 'Leveraging Crisis Data in Crisis and Conflict Situations' aimed at enhancing the availability and accessibility of gender data in Sudan. This position requires a strong focus on gender data and gender-based violence, contributing technically to the development of program strategies in the area of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in humanitarian and conflict settings. The coordinator will provide technical inputs for the design and formulation of program/project proposals, support the production and analysis of gender-disaggregated data, and generate evidence-based recommendations to address the needs arising from crisis and conflict. The role also involves management and operational oversight of project implementation, ensuring effective communication and coordination across various UN Women offices and units, and providing quality assurance for project documents and donor agreements. Additionally, the coordinator will support capacity building for women-led organizations to enhance their technical capacity and data literacy in using gender statistics in humanitarian settings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Contribute to the development of program strategies focusing on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in humanitarian and conflict settings, particularly regarding Gender Data and Gender-Based Violence.
Provide technical inputs for the design and formulation of program/project proposals related to humanitarian efforts.
Support the production and analysis of gender-disaggregated data on the impacts and needs arising from crisis and conflict, generating evidence-based recommendations.
Coordinate data collection and gender analysis exercises to identify gendered impacts of the conflict and crisis in Sudan.
Oversee the production of publicly accessible core indicators and data on gendered impacts and needs in Sudan.
Organize data validation workshops and reviews, shaping recommendations with Women’s Rights Organizations (WROs) and Women’s Leadership Organizations (WLOs).
Develop country-specific gender analysis reports with actionable recommendations.
Provide management, operational, and project implementation oversight, contributing to data and analysis for the Regional Quarterly Business Review (QBR).
Recommend and establish project monitoring standards and key performance indicators for assessing progress/results. 1
Facilitate effective information flow and communication across the office and with other UN Women units. 1
Provide quality assurance for all project documents and donor agreements prior to approval. 1
Support capacity building for WLOs to enhance their technical capacity and data literacy in gender statistics. 1
Coordinate mapping of potential actors involved in producing and using gender data and inform the Capacity Building Plan. 1
Organize capacity development trainings for WROs/WLOs and stakeholders on gender statistics in humanitarian settings. 1
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/women’s studies, international development, or a related field is required.
A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
A project/programme management certification (such as PMP®, PRINCE2®, or MSP®) would be an added advantage.
At least 1 year of relevant work experience in development programme/project implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting, and capacity building is required.
Experience in Women Peace and Security is desirable.
Experience coordinating and liaising with government agencies and/or donors is desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree or equivalent in fields such as social sciences, human rights, gender/women’s studies, international development, or a related area. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, having a project/programme management certification such as PMP®, PRINCE2®, or MSP® is considered an advantage.
Experience: The position requires at least 1 year of relevant work experience in areas such as development programme/project implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting, and capacity building. Experience in the Women Peace and Security sector is desirable, as is experience in coordinating and liaising with government agencies and/or donors.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered desirable, which would enhance the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse work environment.
