Job Overview: The Roster/RAM Associate (GIS, Visualization and Climate Resilience) position within the WFP Jordan Country Office (JOCO) is pivotal in enhancing operational efficiency and evidence-based decision-making through advanced geospatial analysis, remote sensing, and visualization techniques. The incumbent will work under the guidance of the Senior RAM Officer, providing specialized GIS and remote sensing services that bolster WFP’s programs and partnerships. This role involves producing high-quality geospatial products that aid in advocacy and operational planning, supporting technical activities for governmental partners, and contributing to innovative platforms such as the Real-time Impact and Situation Monitoring (PRISM) and the Multi-hazard Early Warning System. The GIS Associate will also be responsible for transforming RAM and programmatic data into actionable visual insights, building GIS capacity within the office, and ensuring effective coordination with government and partners. By leveraging advanced GIS tools and methodologies, the position aims to enhance WFP’s ability to monitor interventions, respond to emerging risks, and communicate impact effectively, thereby playing a crucial role in the organization's mission to combat hunger and improve resilience against climate change.
Duties and Responsibilities: The selected candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Provision of GIS and remote sensing services to WFP JOCO operations, which includes producing various GIS products for advocacy and operational purposes, maintaining geospatial databases, and assisting in monitoring the impacts of WFP interventions.
Supporting GIS technical activities for the National Aid Fund (NAF) by collaborating with the NAF GIS associate, coordinating with monitoring focal points, and providing technical input related to the Multi-purpose Information System (MIS).
Providing technical support for the Real-time Impact and Situation Monitoring (PRISM) and Multi-hazard Early Warning System, including facilitating workshops, supporting database management, and contributing to multi-stakeholder coordination.
Transforming RAM and programmatic data into visual products such as maps, charts, and infographics to inform decision-making, and using Esri's online applications for geographic information delivery.
Assisting in the development of a GIS/mapping capacity-building plan and providing training on ArcGIS to office staff.
Performing any other GIS-related duties as required to support unit objectives under the guidance of the Head of Research, Assessment, and Monitoring and Evaluation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area, with a Bachelor’s degree being an asset, preferably in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing. Additionally, candidates should have in-depth knowledge of WFP corporate indicators and RAM analytical work for various program activities, proven networking abilities with multiple work units, and practical knowledge of data visualization technologies such as Adobe Illustrator, PowerPoint, and Canva. The ability to facilitate and train different audiences, as well as a willingness to build the capacity of others through formal and informal training processes, is essential.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include the completion of secondary school education, with a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area being mandatory. A Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of six years of progressively responsible professional experience in relevant technical fields. This includes experience working with technical teams such as Research Assessment and Monitoring (RAM), program, and Supply Chain, as well as collaboration with government partners like the National Aid Fund, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Environment. Experience in observing or assisting with policy discussions is also valuable.
Languages: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication capabilities within the diverse environment of WFP.
