Job Overview:
The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Support Assistant position is crucial for maintaining the safety and security of the UNFPA Country Office in Kabul, Afghanistan. The individual in this role will work under the supervision of the National Security Analyst and will be responsible for monitoring security risks, ensuring compliance with Security Risk Management measures, and responding to emergencies. The assistant will maintain vigilance against potential security breaches and disturbances, document security events, and ensure the proper functioning of security equipment. This role also involves participating in emergency drills and providing administrative support to the National Security Analyst. The Security Support Assistant will play a vital role in creating a secure environment for UNFPA personnel and assets, contributing to the overall mission of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Security Support Assistant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Maintaining constant vigilance against potential or actual security breaches and reporting incidents to the supervisor.
  • Supporting the monitoring of compliance with Security Risk Management measures and assisting in compiling required data.
  • Ensuring the security of office premises and grounds, responding to emergencies, and reporting urgent issues.
  • Providing security support for field missions as required.
  • Assisting in implementing actions outlined in the Security Plan.
  • Documenting and reporting security events affecting UNFPA personnel, offices, and assets.
  • Ensuring the proper functioning of all assigned security equipment and reporting any irregularities.
  • Maintaining the Country Office bunker and emergency storage room, conducting regular inspections.
  • Participating in evacuation, fire, emergency response, and bunker drills. 1
  • Acting as fire warden during fire incidents within office premises. 1
  • Providing administrative support to the National Security Analyst. 1
  • Performing receptionist duties when required. 1
  • Carrying out other related tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
  • Secondary Education is required.
  • Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in security is required.
  • Working knowledge of English, both written and oral, is required.
  • Knowledge of the local languages, Dari and/or Pashto, is required.
  • Computer literacy is essential.
  • First Aid/Emergency Trauma Bag (ETB) Qualification is necessary.
  • Experience with video surveillance equipment, radio, and other telecommunication equipment is preferred.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a secondary education. Additional certifications or training in security management, emergency response, or related fields would be advantageous and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in security, preferably within the UN system or an international NGO. This experience should include familiarity with security protocols, emergency response procedures, and the ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments.

Languages:
The mandatory language requirement for this position is English, with proficiency in both written and oral communication. Additionally, knowledge of the local languages, Dari and/or Pashto, is required to effectively communicate within the local context and enhance operational effectiveness.
