Job Overview:
The Grant Manager will play a crucial role within the coordination-team" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">coordination team, reporting directly to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director. This position requires close collaboration with both program and support departments at the coordination level, as well as with base teams. The primary responsibility of the Grant Manager is to ensure accountability to donors, which includes contributing to the strategic development of the mission, monitoring and identifying funding opportunities that align with SI's country and global strategy, and overseeing the preparation of high-quality proposals, reports, and contract modification requests for submission to donors and consortium partners. The Grant Manager will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with donor procedures, building capacity among staff regarding internal accountability tools, and managing donor contractual obligations from initiation to closure. Additionally, the role involves centralizing documentation for external audits and ensuring proper archiving of audit reports.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Grant Manager's duties include:
  • Contributing to the mission’s strategic development by identifying and pursuing funding opportunities.
  • Overseeing the compilation of timely and high-quality proposals and reports for donors and consortium partners.
  • Monitoring compliance with donor procedures and building capacity among staff on accountability tools.
  • Proactively managing donor contractual obligations, ensuring that all relevant staff understand their responsibilities.
  • Centralizing documentation for external audits and managing the archiving of audit reports.
  • Engaging in fundraising activities to address the challenges posed by decreased funding.
  • Coordinating with multiple consortia and partners to ensure effective grant management.
  • Preparing for audits and ensuring that all necessary documentation is in place.
  • Conducting kick-off meetings and contractualization of new projects. 1
  • Finalizing reports and proposals for existing projects.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Grant Manager position should possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Science, Business Administration, Economics, Project Management, Public Administration, Development Studies, or a related field. While educational qualifications are important, relevant experience in the humanitarian sector is highly valued. Candidates should have 3 to 4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector and a similar duration of experience in a grant management role. Familiarity with donor systems such as ECHO, AHF, and UN Agencies is essential, along with experience in project cycle management (PCM) and excellent report writing skills. The candidate should also demonstrate strong organizational skills, autonomy, and the ability to work under pressure.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant fields such as Social Science, Business Administration, Economics, Project Management, Public Administration, or Development Studies. The educational background should be complemented by practical experience in the humanitarian sector, emphasizing the importance of hands-on knowledge over formal education.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have 3 to 4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with a specific focus on grant management. This experience should include familiarity with donor systems and project cycle management, as well as a proven track record of managing grants and proposals effectively. Candidates should also have experience working in complex environments, particularly in contexts similar to Afghanistan.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with donors. Proficiency in French is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders and partners.

The salary for the position starts at EUR 2,310 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 600 is provided, along with accommodation costs and travel expenses covered by the organization. Expatriates will benefit from a comprehensive insurance package that covers healthcare expenses, including medical, surgical, dental, and repatriation costs. The living conditions include a well-furnished guest house with essential services, limited electricity, and a small gym. Social life is restricted to interactions with other INGO staff, and a curfew is in place.
