Job Overview:
The South Sudan Project Director, STRIDES is responsible for leading and directing the implementation of an anticipated Activity aimed at enhancing global health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security and polio priorities in South Sudan. This role involves strengthening laboratory and surveillance systems to effectively respond to emerging infectious diseases and public health threats. The Project Director will manage all aspects of the Activity, including personnel, budget, and technical responsibilities. This position requires collaboration with local government and global health security partners, overseeing subcontractors, and ensuring compliance with policies and objectives. The Project Director will also develop annual work plans, monitor and evaluate activities, and handle financial reporting, making this a critical leadership role within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Director will be responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and equitable work environment, ensuring a harassment-free culture. Key responsibilities include planning and coordinating project activities to meet goals within time and budget constraints, reviewing project proposals, establishing work plans and project teams, developing funding proposals, and providing guidance and training to staff. The Director will also participate in strategic development, maintain partnerships with stakeholders, lead the project team, and support the performance management and professional development of direct reports. Additionally, the Director will ensure that project staff are familiar with organizational values and standards, and will be responsible for setting project goals and budgets, leading resource coordination, and reporting to higher management.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of project management theories and practices, with demonstrated project management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, along with strong influencing, negotiation, and consultative skills. The ability to think critically and solve problems is crucial for planning and managing resources effectively. Candidates should also be able to motivate and collaborate with others, and build positive relationships with local communities and government officials.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent in fields such as Civil Society, Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, Environment, Gender, Health, Nutrition, Research, Technology, or Youth is required. A Project Management Certification is preferred, indicating a formal understanding of project management principles.

Experience:
The position requires at least 10 years of relevant experience in project management, including a minimum of 5 years in program management. Candidates should be proficient with the rules and regulations associated with international development and NGOs. Experience in managing health projects, particularly in the context of infectious diseases, is essential. Knowledge of Global Health Security and polio projects is required, and familiarity with the South Sudanese health context is strongly preferred. Experience working with the Ministry of Health and other key counterparts in South Sudan is also highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with the ability to read, write, and speak the language proficiently. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.

Additional Notes:
This position is based in Juba, South Sudan, and is open to both South Sudanese nationals and international applicants who can obtain legal work authorization in South Sudan. South Sudanese applicants are strongly preferred. The role may involve travel requirements of 10% to 25%.
