UN Women, established in July 2010, is the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. It was created as part of the UN reform agenda to consolidate resources and mandates for greater impact on gender equality and women's empowerment. UN Women merges and builds on the work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, focusing exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment. The organization operates in over 14 countries in the Pacific region, including Fiji, Samoa, and Vanuatu, and collaborates with more than 20 other UN agencies to promote gender equality and women's empowerment across various sectors.

Job Overview:
The International Consultant Editor will play a crucial role in supporting the Markets for Change (M4C) Project, which aims to create safe, inclusive, and non-discriminatory marketplaces for women vendors in Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. The consultant will be responsible for reviewing, editing, and rewriting project reports to ensure they meet high-quality standards and adhere to UN Women guidelines. This position requires a strong understanding of gender-sensitive programming and the ability to communicate complex information in a reader-friendly manner. The consultant will work closely with the M4C team to clarify content and gather additional information as needed, ensuring that all reports are consistent in format and style. The role is home-based, allowing for flexibility in work hours, but requires adherence to Fiji time for standard working hours.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant Editor will undertake the following tasks:
  • Review and edit the draft M4C Annual Report (2025) and its Annexes to ensure high quality and adherence to UN Women standards.
  • Edit the draft M4C End-of-Project Report (2022–2026) and its Annexes for clarity and quality.
  • Ensure that all reports are reader-friendly and meet the specified page limits.
  • Liaise with M4C team members to clarify content and gather additional information.
  • Incorporate feedback from the team into the final versions of the reports.
  • Ensure consistency in format and style across all documents.
  • Deliver the edited reports by the specified deadlines, ensuring compliance with survivor-centered standards for data management.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or other advanced degree in social sciences, international development, communications, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level University Degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. The consultant should have at least seven years of high-level progressive work experience in program development, writing, and editing complex programmatic information. A demonstrated ability to produce high-quality English-language documents and a strong understanding of gender-sensitive programming are essential. Familiarity with UN processes and systems is an asset, as is knowledge of at least two program areas relevant to UN Women MCO.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or advanced degree in social sciences, international development, communications, or a similar field is required. A first-level University Degree with additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
The position requires at least seven years of relevant experience for candidates with a Master's degree, or nine years for those with a first-level University Degree. Experience should include high-level work in program development, writing, and editing, with a focus on producing reader-friendly documents. Familiarity with gender-sensitive programming and the UN context is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in verbal and written English is essential for this position. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English, as all documents and reports will be written in this language.

The consultancy is home-based, with a total duration of 40 working days planned over 12 months, starting from January 202
  • The consultant is expected to work during standard working hours in Fiji time, and there is no travel involved. Payments will be made in four installments upon approval of deliverables. The consultant will be evaluated based on timeliness, responsibility, initiative, communication, accuracy, and quality of the products delivered.
