Job Overview: The Driver position at UN Women is crucial for providing reliable and safe driving services to UN Women staff, high-ranking UN officials, and visitors. The role requires a strong sense of responsibility, discretion, and integrity, as well as an excellent understanding of protocol and security issues. The Driver is expected to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. Reporting to the Administrative Associate, the Driver may also be tasked with providing driving services to operations and program personnel, consultants, experts, and UN staff on mission. Additionally, the Driver will be responsible for basic administrative and clerical support to the UN Women country office, ensuring smooth operations and compliance with organizational policies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver's duties and responsibilities include:
Providing reliable and secure driving services by transporting authorized personnel, delivering and collecting mail and documents, and meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport while handling visa and customs formalities as needed.
Ensuring the proper use of the vehicle by maintaining daily logs of mileage, gas consumption, and servicing, and contributing to vehicle maintenance plans.
Conducting day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, ensuring it is clean, in good working condition, and making minor repairs while arranging for major repairs as necessary.
Maintaining and ensuring the availability of all required documents and supplies in the vehicle, including insurance, logs, and first aid kits.
Providing general administrative, logistic, and protocol support to office personnel, assisting with coordination of protocol matters with government authorities, and maintaining accurate records.
Performing other duties as required for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications:
Completion of secondary education is mandatory.
A valid driver's license is essential.
At least 2 years of experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a proven safe driving record.
Excellent driving skills and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations, as well as good defensive driving skills.
Skills in minor vehicle repairs and the ability to be punctual and reliable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes the completion of secondary education. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities and tasks associated with the role of a driver, as well as for ensuring compliance with driving regulations and safety protocols. Additionally, a valid driver's license is required to operate the vehicle legally and safely.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. This experience should include a demonstrated safe driving record, showcasing the candidate's ability to navigate various driving conditions and adhere to safety protocols. The experience should also reflect the candidate's familiarity with the responsibilities of transporting personnel and handling logistical tasks associated with driving.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, along with fluency in Arabic. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered desirable. Proficiency in these languages is important for effective communication with diverse stakeholders and for fulfilling the role's responsibilities in a multicultural environment.
