Job Overview:
The Biodiversity Expert (National Consultant) position is designed to facilitate the implementation of a finance solution aimed at enhancing biodiversity through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives within Banks and Financial Institutions (BFIs) in Nepal. The consultant will be responsible for developing strategies and frameworks that encourage financial institutions to invest in biodiversity conservation efforts. This role requires a deep understanding of both biodiversity issues and the financial sector, as well as the ability to engage with various stakeholders to promote sustainable practices. The consultant will work closely with UNDP and local partners to ensure that the financial solutions align with national biodiversity strategies and contribute to the overall goals of sustainable development in Nepal.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current state of biodiversity financing in Nepal, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and propose innovative financial mechanisms that can be adopted by BFIs to support biodiversity initiatives.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions for stakeholders, including financial institutions, to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity and CSR.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners to promote biodiversity-friendly investment practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented strategies and provide recommendations for adjustments as necessary.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations on findings and progress to be shared with UNDP and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven expertise in biodiversity conservation, sustainable finance, and corporate social responsibility.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex financial and environmental data.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory and policy frameworks related to biodiversity and finance in Nepal.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Environmental Science, Finance, Economics, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in biodiversity conservation or sustainable finance will be considered an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in biodiversity conservation, sustainable finance, or related fields is required. Experience working with financial institutions and knowledge of CSR practices will be highly advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Nepali is preferred. Knowledge of additional local languages will be considered a plus.

The contract duration for this position is from January 2026 to July 202
  • This is a full-time consultancy role, and the consultant will be expected to work closely with UNDP and other stakeholders in Nepal. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's policies for individual contractors.
