Job Overview: The National Consultant for the IBBS Survey among People Who Inject Drugs (PWID) will play a crucial role in the UNDP's project aimed at strengthening health resilience in Nepal, particularly concerning HIV, TB, and Malaria. The consultant will provide technical assistance in managing and coordinating the National Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance (IBBS) Surveys among PWID for the years 2025-2
This position requires a deep understanding of survey methodologies, data collection, and statistical analysis to generate reliable evidence on HIV/STI prevalence and behavioral risk factors. The consultant will be responsible for identifying priority intervention sites to enhance service coverage and impact, ensuring that the project meets its objectives effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Designing and implementing survey methodologies tailored to the needs of the IBBS among PWID.
Developing and utilizing biological and behavioral data collection tools to gather accurate information.
Overseeing field monitoring and supervision to ensure data integrity and adherence to protocols.
Conducting thorough data checking, cleaning, and management to prepare datasets for analysis.
Performing statistical analysis using appropriate tools and procedures to derive meaningful insights from the data collected.
Writing comprehensive reports that summarize findings and disseminating these reports to communities, stakeholders, and donors to inform future interventions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in public health, social sciences, or a related field, with specific expertise in survey methodologies and data analysis. Familiarity with HIV/STI issues, particularly in the context of PWID, is essential. The consultant should demonstrate proficiency in statistical software and data management tools, as well as possess excellent communication skills for report writing and stakeholder engagement. A proven track record of similar consultancy work will be highly regarded.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Statistics, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in survey methodologies, data analysis, or public health research will be considered an asset.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in public health research, particularly in conducting surveys and data analysis related to HIV/STI or similar health issues. Experience working with marginalized populations, such as PWID, and familiarity with the health landscape in Nepal will be advantageous. Previous consultancy experience with UN agencies or similar organizations is preferred.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Nepali or other local languages is considered a strong asset, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is expected to last for a total of 30 days, spread over a period of three months. This position is classified as an individual contractor role, and applicants should be prepared to submit their proposals directly through the UNDP supplier portal by the specified deadline. The consultant will be expected to work independently while coordinating with various stakeholders involved in the project. Compensation details will be discussed during the selection process, and the role may involve both remote and field-based work depending on the survey requirements.
