Job Overview:
The Writer Consultant position is designed to provide specialized writing support for UNICEF's Goal Area 1, which focuses on Health. This role involves creating and refining various reports and documents, including the Annual Report, director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Executive Director’s Annual Report (EDAR), and narratives for the Results Assessment Module (RAM). The consultant will also be responsible for speechwriting for senior leadership at health-related events and contributing to the World Fit for Children Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Report. As the Strategic Plan 2022–2025 comes to a close in 2025, the consultant's work will be crucial in assessing progress and ensuring a consistent voice for UNICEF Health across all outputs. This position requires a strong understanding of UNICEF's strategic priorities and the ability to communicate effectively about health-related issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Writer Consultant will have a range of responsibilities, including:
  • Drafting a 300-word input for the World Fit for Children SG Report, ensuring clarity and alignment with UNICEF's messaging.
  • Producing timely and high-quality chapters for the Annual Results Report, specifically focusing on Health, with a deadline for submission by 31 May 202
  • Preparing a 1,300-word chapter for the Executive Director’s Annual Report (EDAR) by 30 April 202
  • Copy-editing 22 RAM narratives, each approximately 1,500 words, by the same deadline of 30 April 202
  • Drafting 10 speeches for the Health Director and Executive Director for various health-related events, to be completed by 31 December 202
  • The consultant will also be responsible for incorporating feedback from technical teams and ensuring the final drafts meet UNICEF's standards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in Public Health, International Development, Communications, or a related field. They should have at least 10 years of mid-level professional writing experience, particularly in public health and report writing. Experience in copy-editing, fact-checking, and policy analysis is essential, along with a strong understanding of results-based management and project implementation. Familiarity with country programming principles and knowledge of NGO networks is also required. Proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint, Word, and Excel is necessary, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Previous experience with UN or UNICEF reports is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
An advanced degree in a relevant field such as Public Health, International Development, or Communications is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to UNICEF's health reporting and communication efforts.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of mid-level professional writing experience, specifically in the areas of public health, report writing, and documentation. Candidates should have a proven track record of producing high-quality written materials and should be familiar with the nuances of health-related communication within an international context.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all written outputs and communications will be conducted in this language. While not required, proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to UNICEF's operational regions.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy is set to run from 15 January 2026 to 31 December 2026, and the position is remote, allowing for flexibility in work location. Candidates must complete their profiles in UNICEF's e-Recruitment system and submit their academic credentials along with a financial proposal detailing costs per deliverable. UNICEF will cover any emergent travel expenses, and selected candidates must have valid health insurance coverage at the time of contract award. Payment will be contingent upon the satisfactory submission of deliverables, and UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment if standards are not met. Additionally, candidates must confirm their fully-vaccinated status against COVID-19, although this requirement does not apply to those working remotely.
