ESCAP supports its member states through policy-oriented research, normative support, technical assistance, and capacity building to address the development priorities and evolving needs of the region. The Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM), based in Beijing, China, is part of ESCAP's efforts to foster technical cooperation among member states and promote research and development in sustainable agricultural practices.

Interns will work full-time, typically five days a week, under the supervision of a staff member. The internship is unpaid and has a minimum duration of two months, with the possibility of extension up to six months. Interns will engage in various tasks that align with their academic background and the needs of the organization, contributing to ongoing projects and initiatives aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the region. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the workings of a major international organization and to contribute to meaningful development efforts in Asia and the Pacific.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be involved in a variety of tasks that may include: providing support to ongoing projects related to sustainable agricultural mechanization; assisting in social media outreach to promote ESCAP initiatives; offering administrative support to ensure smooth operations within the division; working on presentations to communicate project findings and updates; and consolidating and sorting data to assist in research and analysis efforts. The specific responsibilities will depend on the intern's background and the duration of the internship, allowing for a tailored experience that meets both the intern's learning objectives and the organization's needs.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). This ensures that interns have a solid academic foundation to contribute effectively to the work of ESCAP.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes either a graduate degree or a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. This could encompass areas such as international relations, environmental science, agricultural studies, or other disciplines that align with the mission of ESCAP and the specific focus of the internship.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not mandatory for this internship, any relevant experience in research, project support, or administrative roles will be considered an asset. The internship is designed for individuals who are looking to gain practical experience and develop their skills in an international setting, particularly in the context of sustainable development and agricultural mechanization.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for the internship programme, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is another working language of the organization. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage, depending on the specific projects the intern will be involved in.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. It is important for interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of China to obtain the necessary visa and work authorization prior to starting the internship. The United Nations does not charge any fees during the recruitment process, and applicants should be cautious of any requests for personal financial information.
