Job Overview:
The Data Assistant Intern position is designed for individuals who are eager to gain practical experience in data management and reporting within the context of the United Nations. The interns will work closely with the Data Management and Results Reporting Officer, contributing to the UNInfo system and supporting the tracking and reporting of SDG-related data. This role is crucial for ensuring that data is accurately collected, organized, and visualized to inform decision-making and reporting processes. Interns will engage in various tasks that enhance their understanding of data management in a global context, while also contributing to the UN's mission of promoting sustainable development. The internship provides an opportunity to develop skills in data entry, analysis, and visualization, as well as to gain insights into the workings of the UN and its development initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The interns will be responsible for a range of tasks under the supervision of the Data Management and Results Reporting Officer, including:
  • Performing data entry in the UNInfo system, ensuring completeness and accuracy, including geographical tagging at the district level.
  • Collecting, compiling, and organizing SDG-related data for progress tracking and reporting at both federal and provincial levels, which includes creating visualizations of the data.
  • Verifying and validating data to ensure consistency with reporting guidelines.
  • Assisting in updating and maintaining data for UN programs and activities.
  • Supporting the generation of reports and visualizations for the UNInfo system and SDG progress monitoring.
  • Coordinating with relevant teams to gather missing data and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assisting in organizing and documenting UN Data Group meetings and the Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Group (PMEL), including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on action points.
  • Supporting other data-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor. This internship is a full-time commitment, requiring interns to work five days a week from 08:00 to 16:45 hours.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data entry tools, and database management is essential. Candidates should have the ability to produce data-driven maps and visuals using tools such as ARCH GIS or other mapping software. Knowledge of data visualization and reporting tools is expected, along with experience in meeting coordination, note-taking, and documentation. The ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently is also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes either being enrolled in or having completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or being enrolled in or having completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of data management and reporting within the context of the UN's development goals.

Experience:
The level of experience needed for this position is relatively flexible, as it is an internship role. However, candidates with prior experience in data management, data entry, or related fields will be at an advantage. Experience in meeting coordination, note-taking, and documentation is desirable, as these skills will be utilized in organizing and supporting UN Data Group meetings and other related activities. The internship is designed to provide practical experience, so a willingness to learn and adapt is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for the internship programme, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is considered an asset, as it is also a working language of the UN. Proficiency in additional languages may enhance a candidate's application, but English remains the primary language for communication within the organization.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment, with interns expected to work five days a week from 08:00 to 16:45 hours. The minimum duration of the internship is two months, with the possibility of extension up to a total of six months. Interns are responsible for their own costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses. Those who are not citizens or permanent residents of Pakistan may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization before starting the internship.
