Job Overview: The position of Consultor/a para el diagnóstico del vínculo entre empresas y la biodiversidad involves conducting a comprehensive assessment of the relationship between businesses and biodiversity. The consultant will be expected to analyze how corporate activities impact biodiversity and identify opportunities for businesses to enhance their sustainability practices. This role requires a deep understanding of environmental issues, corporate social responsibility, and biodiversity conservation. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including businesses, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations, to gather data, conduct interviews, and facilitate workshops aimed at fostering a better understanding of the interconnections between economic activities and biodiversity. The ultimate goal is to provide actionable recommendations that can help businesses align their operations with biodiversity conservation efforts, thereby contributing to sustainable development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
Conduct a thorough analysis of the current state of biodiversity in relation to business operations in Uruguay.
Identify key sectors and industries that have significant impacts on biodiversity and assess their practices.
Engage with stakeholders through interviews, surveys, and workshops to gather insights on the business-biodiversity nexus.
Develop a framework for assessing the impacts of business activities on biodiversity and vice versa.
Prepare a detailed report outlining findings, challenges, and opportunities for businesses to improve their biodiversity practices.
Provide recommendations for policy changes or initiatives that could support businesses in enhancing their biodiversity performance.
Collaborate with UNDP and other partners to disseminate findings and promote best practices in corporate biodiversity management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, ecology, or a related field. A proven track record in conducting assessments or research related to biodiversity and business is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate experience in stakeholder engagement and possess excellent analytical and communication skills. Familiarity with corporate sustainability frameworks and biodiversity conservation strategies will be considered an asset. The ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively is also required.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in environmental science, ecology, sustainable development, or a related field is required. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent experience in biodiversity research or corporate sustainability will be given preference. Relevant certifications in environmental management or sustainability practices are also advantageous.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in environmental consulting, biodiversity assessment, or corporate sustainability. Experience working with businesses to improve their environmental performance and knowledge of biodiversity-related regulations and standards is highly desirable. Previous experience with international organizations or NGOs focused on sustainability will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the position requires communication with local stakeholders and the preparation of reports in Spanish. Proficiency in English is also required, as the consultant may need to engage with international partners and access global resources. Knowledge of additional languages will be considered a plus.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as an individual contractor role, and the contract duration will be specified upon selection. The consultant is expected to work on a full-time basis for the duration of the project, which may extend based on project needs. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
