Job Overview: The position involves consulting to strengthen capacities related to gender, climate change, and environmental issues. The consultant will be expected to engage with various stakeholders to assess current capacities, identify gaps, and develop strategies to enhance gender-responsive approaches in climate action and environmental management. This role is crucial in ensuring that gender considerations are integrated into climate policies and practices, thereby promoting sustainable development. The consultant will work closely with UNDP and other partners to facilitate workshops, training sessions, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at empowering local communities and organizations to address these critical issues effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct a comprehensive assessment of existing capacities related to gender and climate change within targeted communities and organizations.
Develop tailored training materials and resources that address identified gaps in knowledge and skills.
Facilitate workshops and training sessions to enhance understanding of gender issues in climate change and environmental management.
Collaborate with local stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community groups, to promote gender-responsive climate action.
Provide ongoing support and guidance to participants in implementing gender-sensitive practices in their work.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of capacity-building initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
Prepare detailed reports documenting findings, progress, and recommendations for future actions.
Ensure that all activities align with UNDP’s strategic objectives and contribute to the overall mission of promoting sustainable development.
Required Qualifications:
Proven expertise in gender issues, climate change, and environmental management.
Strong understanding of the intersectionality between gender and climate change.
Experience in capacity building and training facilitation, particularly in diverse cultural contexts.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Familiarity with UNDP’s policies and frameworks related to gender and climate change is an asset.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and creativity in problem-solving.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Environmental Science, Climate Change, Development Studies, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in gender and climate change would be advantageous.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in gender and climate change, including experience in capacity building and training. Previous work with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP or similar agencies, is highly desirable. Experience in project management and monitoring and evaluation is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the position will involve working primarily in Spanish-speaking contexts. Proficiency in English is also required, and knowledge of additional languages would be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is for an individual contractor and is expected to be a full-time engagement. The contract duration will be specified upon selection, and the consultant will be required to submit proposals through the UNDP supplier portal. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and the consultant will be expected to adhere to UNDP’s ethical standards and guidelines.
