Job Overview: The Knowledge Management Consultant position is focused on supporting the Comprehensive Response to Sexual Violence (CRSV) initiatives within the United Nations. The consultant will be responsible for mapping and reviewing CRSV-related documentation and digital assets, conducting consultations with the CRSV Team, and drafting annual summaries in both English and French. The role requires a strong understanding of knowledge management principles, as well as the ability to synthesize and analyze large volumes of information from diverse sources. The consultant will also be involved in the translation and bilingual harmonization of documents, ensuring that both English and French versions are aligned in terms of terminology and structure. This position is home-based and expected to last for five months, requiring a proactive approach to managing digital repositories and supporting various CRSV initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The contractor will undertake a comprehensive set of duties, including:
Mapping, Review and Analysis: Compile and review all available CRSV-related documentation and digital media from 2024-25, including media monitoring outputs, internal notes, reports, and publicly available UN literature. Organize and classify documents, identify outdated materials for archiving, and clarify gaps for inclusion in CRSV knowledge products.
Consultations: Engage with the CRSV Team and other stakeholders to confirm thematic priorities and validate details for story vignettes. Liaise with PBPS on photo usage rights and participate in regular progress check-ins.
Drafting and Content Development: Prepare an annotated outline and draft the full English version of the Annual Summaries, including thematic sections and visual elements. Revise drafts based on feedback.
Translation and Bilingual Harmonisation: Draft the full French version of the Annual Summaries and ensure alignment between English and French texts.
Digital Knowledge Management: Update CRSV information repositories, apply consistent metadata, and develop a bilingual digital library of key resources.
Finalisation: Prepare publication-ready files, ensuring consistency in layout and formatting.
Support to Online CRSV Training Rollout: Organize digital materials for the online training course and maintain a central repository of assets.
Support to Mainstreaming Toolkit Finalisation: Prepare launch materials and organize MSTK-related files.
Layout Preparation: Prepare design-ready files for both language versions and support layout finalization. 1
Support to Reinforcement Training Package Development: Prepare summaries of RTP meetings and archive related files.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as international relations, political science, law, gender studies, human rights, or knowledge management. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying professional experience may be accepted. A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in knowledge management, research, analysis, or content development in relevant international policy areas is required. Proven experience in synthesizing large volumes of qualitative information and drafting high-quality analytical products is essential. Familiarity with UN terminology and processes is desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as international relations, political science, law, gender studies, human rights, peace and conflict studies, or information management. A first-level university degree in these fields, combined with two additional years of qualifying professional experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional experience in knowledge management, research, analysis, reporting, or content development, particularly in the context of peacekeeping, gender, human rights, or related international policy areas. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in reviewing and synthesizing large volumes of qualitative information from diverse sources, as well as drafting high-quality analytical or narrative knowledge products for an international audience.
Languages: Fluency in both spoken and written English and French is required for this position, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in both languages, ensuring that all documentation is accurately translated and harmonized between the two languages.
