Job Overview: This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in the Global Strategy and Policy Division (GSPD) of the Office of Human Resources (OHR) at the United Nations. The intern will work closely with a Project Lead or Human Resources Officer and will have the opportunity to engage in various projects that align with their background and interests. The internship is full-time, requiring 35 hours per week, and is expected to last between 3 to 6 months. Interns will gain exposure to administrative tasks, communication strategies, research and data analysis, and talent management initiatives, contributing to the overall mission of enhancing human resource practices within the UN.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's responsibilities will encompass a range of tasks across different areas: A. Administrative and Technical Skills - Assist in designing, updating, and maintaining internal records, databases, and SharePoint files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality. - Utilize Office 365 apps, Power BI, or other software to prepare presentations, reports, and communications. B. Communications and Graphic Design - Aid in planning and disseminating communication products. - Contribute to outreach activities, including drafting materials for online engagement and maintaining web and social media content. - Design or edit visuals in accordance with UN branding guidelines. - Develop skills in software for creating visual products such as infographics and videos. C. Research and Data Analysis - Conduct research on HR-related policies and summarize findings. - Analyze data for internal reports and budget submissions. - Create visual reports to support decision-making. D. Talent Management and Development - Assist in designing and implementing learning initiatives and training materials. - Support community engagements and learning events. - Participate in outreach to promote job opportunities and HR initiatives. E. Other Opportunities - Collaborate with teams within OHR to support HR initiatives and propose solutions for efficiency improvements.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). A background in human resources, psychology, education, public administration, or related fields is desirable. Applicants are not required to have professional work experience, but a relevant field of study is necessary. Candidates must be students in their final year of a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program or have completed such programs. Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel, is essential. Familiarity with content authoring software, synchronous learning tools, learning platforms, data analytic tools, and media design software is advantageous.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a strong educational background relevant to the internship. This includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. Fields of study that are closely related to human resources, psychology, education, or public administration are preferred. Proof of enrollment or completion of the required educational qualifications must be provided during the application process.
Experience: While professional work experience is not a requirement for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This could include projects, research, or volunteer work related to human resources or organizational development.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.
Additional Notes: This internship is in-person and full-time, requiring a commitment of at least 35 hours per week.
